I wanted to post what I know about gene pools, but I am not going to leave God out of the lab. I know that when male and female mate the gene pool is mixed. It is not mixed the same way paints mix, but more like how cards are shuffled, as cofty said in the OP.

This shuffling can be looked at in a chemical way, there is not a change in chemicl properties, there is no change in atomic structure. Hence the genes remain in isolated blocks.

But just like in a pack of cards we need 52 different cards for the pack to serve is purpose a it's full potential, so too the gene pool must have the right combination of chemicals at a sterio-isomer level. DNA and RNA are fab.

However, the gene pool needs to contain homochrial enatiomers. Sexual reproduction and mixing the gene pools achieves this in nature, a perfect balance of L- enantiomers results. Plus God made it fun too. It's not supposed to take 5 mins guys.

IMO, the fun bit is not required as such, but I am told conception has higher odds if both male and female climax, but that just might be an old wives tale. My point is, I think there must be a higher intelligence behind this.

The OP title did say "Let's talk about Sex" Should I or shouldn't I press submit...... What the heck, I can edit in 30 mins Kate xxx

Yes it was an old wives tale, the Daily Mail ran an article and the scientist did not publish his paper it was inconclusive. The Mail also stated that many evolutionalry biologists would not like these findings. I don't get that???????

Natural selection is not effected by what a male or female see's, so it would not have an effect by what one feels during reproduction. Natural selection is the evolutionary process God chose, of course it's will be fun, so individuals do it more than once, well humans anyway. (I know praying Mantises are a different story)

There are a number of arguments employed to explain why sexual reproduction is so prevalent in the natural world. The truth is no one knows for sure. It certainly is NOT anything to do god Sam The argument that is pleasurable is mute because the pleasurable aspect is a very recent evolutionary development.

Single celled protists were probably the first eukaryotes to reproduce by exchanging genetic material . These appeared 2 billion years ago and had no neurons capable of assessing pleasure. Likewise modern unicellular organisms carry out genetic exchange via parasexual (a nonsexual, non-meiotic mechanism for transferring genetic material) processes such as transduction ( transference of genetic material from one cell to another by virus) and conjugation (transference of genetic material between bacteria through direct cell to cell contact), again I am sure this does not involve pleasure - especially for the poor hosts of these often diabolical parasitic organisms.

I believe all biological growth processes involve pleasure.

    nature is internally driven.

no later prompting from a slave driving god required.

I was waiting for cofty to take the bait but you will do

The recent evolutionary developement was when, in what species? Do monkey's have pleasure? I would say so, and so do dogs. So "recent" is like saying Armaggedon is coming soon, it's arbitrary.
