I've seen brothers related or who are friends of elders who get appointed after only 6-12 months as an M.S. while they were other brothers slaving away for years. Elders also who promote their sons and basically say to other young brothers "to heck with everyone else". Brothers who will not promote brothers under 30 even though there is nothing in the flock book or watchtowers to support this. Just guys making up their own rules. Many more examples of nepotism. What have you seen and is there anyway to stop it or cope with it?
How bad is the nepotism really with the appointments of elders?

Wasanelder Once
A dynasty where I was, father and two sons. The first son was made a MS when actually inactive while two others getting the national average were passed over, you heard me. He married not long afterwards.
Second son was made an MS. Was appointed MS and sent to Bethel (appointed MS there too) till local girl came forward and confessed to the horizontal mombo with him before he was appointed and reccommended to Bethel. He married someone else not a witnoid.
Now, Daddy is divorced, still elder.
Number one son is divorced, still elder.
Number two son is divorced and out of the Troof. Only one with a brain.

Actually I have seen this, now it's true the brothers used to be elders years ago but still 6-12 months and you're right back in I don't know about anybody else but something ain't right about that especially when they are ACTIVE SPIRITUAL BROTHERS who give excellent talks who have been serving continuously for many years only to be passed over because they don't have the "right connections". Something just ain't right about that.

Nepotism was a plague in my country.
Father-appoints-son was the most usual case. Father-in-law --> son-in-law, usual as well.
Still, there was this remarkable instructor in MTS who would tell us this advice: "If a co-elder suggests his relative, do not accept it! If the person has indeed the qualifications, another elder will think to suggest him". And again: "One of the worst problems in our congregations are elders' children".
Later, when I was an elder myself, I saw another kind of 'nepotism', or partiality: When an elder, or even a CO, suggested not a relative, but a close friend. There was this co-elder, 28 years old, who would every time suggest his buddy for eldership. We succeeded in holding him back for some time, but eventually he made it through. The MS in question was a good guy but was far from ready, and the sight of his close buddy craving every time to appoint him was ridiculous. Another difficult thing was when the CO was determined to appoint -or not to appoint- a certain person: no matter what we said, the CO's opinion (decision, actually) would dominate. So much for praying for guidance, and not deciding beforehand.

Alright, that makes more sense to me. The portion about "used to be" wasn't in your original post. I can see that happening for former elders.

SFPW, these types of appointments will probably become a regular thing in your congregation, since Jehovahs blessing and Holy Spirit is no longer working there because of your continual disobedience to the F&DS. You are very naughty, visiting and commenting on apostate sites. Go confess to the elders so the Holy Spirit can get back to work.

When I used to be an elder, there was one time the COBE(coordinator) wanted to appoint a 16 year old as a MS. Thankfully, the rest of us helped him see reason that he was still a kid and even the scriptures said that men, not minor children should be appointed. His reasoning was that he knew of circuit overseers in other countries like Mexico that were only 20 years old. I didn't know if that was true or not but I didn't want this young brother to have to be thrust into that responsbility yet. I think they're getting desperate for anybody to be appointed.

Elders are human. They appoint yes men, friends, and relatives. Nobody would bat an eye except the claim by the WTBT$ is that appointments are made by "holy spirit". hahahah
