So Moses was denied the promise land because he struck the

rock instead of talking to the rock.

Exodus 17;6 he is told to strike the rock but in numbers 20;8 he

is told to speak to the rock.

Ok folks, this is one stupid story.

First of all maybe Moses thought I will stand before the assembly and

talk to a rock. The people already feel that I'm bat shit crazy and

now GOD tell me to carry on a conversation with a damn rock.

People will become contentious when there is a need for basic

nourishment for the body, like water.

Why did God play games, if they needed water bring down rain and

to deny Moses(promise land) for such a minor offense is ludicrous.

So my question, Moses missed out because he didn't talk to the rock???

This really is one of the weird passages of those early Scriptures, there are a good number. If only dear Leolaia was still posting here I do not doubt she could shed some light.

It could well be a hang-over from another story of antiquity, poorly reproduced in the Bible.

It serves little purpose as far as I can see, apart from establishing Yahweh's difficult and contrary nature.

Folks correction, my mistake. The account in Exodus and

Numbers are two different accounts, sorry. But the story is

still nutty. These accounts are separated by 39 years,

it makes it more crazier. If striking the rock was so awful

why is it okay so many years earlier?

Phizzy: yes, Leolaia where are you, we need your help.

Outlaw: Funny, I'm sure Moses thought WTH Lord.

Moses talking to rocks? Satan told jesus to turn rocks into bread, Jesus said rocks could talk (if prompted)

all good stories, remember pet rocks?

why try to disprove a fanciful story?

    fan the fantacies?

you really don't know the answer? It was because he said 'he' had done it instead of giving the glory to God.

EoM that makes sense, since Moses himself wrote the whole story, he should know. but is this story believable?

I takes more than a TAP or Two to get a rock to give up the H and the O , the TAP water

Endo: do you think the assembly believed only Moses was

responsible for the water? Plus he told Moses " because you

did not believe me, hallow Me in the eyes of the children

of Israel". Did he have to say or make it know that God

provided the water, who else had the power to provide water

from a rock. So what happen in Exodus 17:6

jam, you might find this interesting: http://contradictionsinthebible.com/meribah-happens-before-or-after-sinai/

I suppose many Christians (and perhaps the Society) do consider the two rock accounts to be separate events, but in some scholars' opinion, it is one of many duplicated stories that was fitted together to make a single narrative.
