You know, this is one of those areas where people's personalities are surprisingly different. I'm a pretty passive, doormat kind of guy, for instance. I don't think the GB's calls for blind obedience were very troubling to me, though it's hard for me to recall because I was apathetic about the religion for a long time before I even learned TTATT. But I simply saw them as talking about the importance of following an organization, which I agreed with, not following those specific men personally (of course, the "slave" at that time was the anointed remnant as a whole, so it was slightly less obvious that it was a handful of men we were talking about).
But I think that these calls for loyalty have a polarizing effect; some people like you react negatively, but others get pulled further in. You seem to be forgetting just how many sycophantic JWs there are, who would feel privileged to clean the shoes of a GB member. So maybe it only helps them in the end, because if it distances ones who are inclined to be "rebellious" (read, "possessed of healthy self respect"), then that only increases the solidarity among the GB butt-kissers who remain.
