I did believe for the first 30 years of my life that they had been picked by Jehovah God to dispense the truth as best as imperfect humans could. Then, everything became questionable. I had read anti JW books in the past but Franz's books really got to me but not immediately. It took a long time to finally accept that the religion is all bs.

At 24ish looking for a religion, and I thought they'd answered the questions I always had... thought they were the truth. Until I realized you can't just leave the org on your own free will. You will be label an apostate and your family who you brought in with you will be left behind. There's no freedom in this org. Period.

They seemed to have all the answers, even to questions I had never asked.

They had detailed commentaries on Bible books I knew little or nothing about.

I didn't know then that their answers kept changing...

Another factor was that no one outside the organization wanted to respond to the WT point by point (until someone put me on to tapes by Walter Martin and the Cetnars).

Mainly, people just told me they were a cult and that I should avoid them.

Of course, that just played right in to the WT's "persecuted-because-we're-the-truth" indoctrination.

I always had to laugh to myself, even in my most brainwashed state, at the phrase "drawn to Jehovah".

I wasn't drawn, I was forced into it through ritualistic sales seminars for the first two decades of my life.

It was conditioning. I still sometimes check myself on Tuesdays and Thursdays thinking I have to go to a meeting that night. Crazy!!!!
