We had the pioneer assist "talk" a couple of weeks ago, and yes, it wasn't so much advertising or recommending, rather stating you were weak in faith to pass up the opportunity... A LOT of peeps were asking to get involved at the end.

As well as this, I get the impression that there's a large amount of pressure on younger members to pioneer, even though the Society has relaxed its views on schooling, a few comments were made, by the speaker, that school was a waste of time, using the fisherman example, I'm not sure if anyone else has heard this. I have been studying for only a couple of months, but I'm already being "asked" to come into service, and I'm not exactely meek, lol!

Things haven't changed much then have they. I had a bunch of elders in my home implying the same thing when I decided to go back to school.

I would've thrown them out my house and off my property if I knew then about the WT what I know now.

Well, this certainly goes against what they say on their own website about shunnung. But, what's new?

    Hello, Matty.

I agree with everything you said (good cop/bad cop).
I definitely believe they are taking a harder approach now vs. the 90's.
    The guilt tactics are incredible

Check out some highlights from my last CO visit back in January...

There was one girl there, whose parents spoke up, and condemned her teachers and career advisor for telling her she would have a lot of success at university, and she should seriously consider it. Her father ranted on about how this was a ploy to steer her away from the truth, etc... That's his perogative, but what bothered me most was that the poor girl was squirming, and obviously unhappy about something.

I "accidentaly" bumped into her later, and made a passing comment on this, to which she replied that she'd been told by her parents not to discuss it with anyone, and that the decision was final, she was not going to university. She's 18, nearly 19.

Yes, the WTS is even now passing along by word of mouth a tougher view of those who are inactive. What they have in writing sounds better, and their view of inactives was nicer in the past. But now, given fear of lawsuits over their hiding child molestation etc, they have stiffened their stance.

    I agree with anewperson,

What with all the talk of "loyalty to the brotherhood", it definitively sounded like they were digging trenches and ordering closed communication with the outside, and especially those who were half in, half out, who they probably view as the greatest threat. Shame no-one thought of registering the word apostate, someone would have made a fortune in the last few weeks...

My favorite quote from these liars:

"if you are a young person, you also need to face the fact that you
will never grow old in this present system of things. Why not?
Because all the evidence in fufillment of Bible prophecy indicates
that this corrupt system is due to end in a few years...

"Therefore, as a young person, you will never fufill any career
that this system offers." May 22, 1969 Awake.

That was 33 years ago. How many more innocent people will be
hoodwinked and hurt by this lying organization?

    Some gems from JW-Media.org:

"Disfellowshipping does not sever family ties. Disfellowshipped members may continue to attend religious services, and if they wish, they may receive pastoral visits. They are always welcome to return to the faith.—1 Corinthians 5:11-13."

    Hmmm...

"Moreover, Jesus said that we should not be judging one another."

    Oh, REALLY, now...

"Any day spent NOT knocking on doors is a good day!"

fatal, interesting thread, and all the comments have been interesting as well.

I might add that this could also be a case of having a CO in your area who has his personal little crusade going. Over the years, as they have come and gone, I (and many jws from my area to whom I have spoken about it) have noticed that each one seems to have his special rant, one CO being hung up on phallic symbols, one especially picky with the congregation record-keeping, one being very tough on appointed brothers meeting qualifications with regard to field service time, and so on.

On the other hand, as has been mentioned, this would also seem to be a case of 'practice being different from print', which happens so ofetn in this organization.
