Of course the question to be asked is, why the chart says Day Zero is October 1st.
.
In the November 1, 1914, Watch Tower they all along reckoned it is September 20, 1914.

It's not surprising that the Society would put this in the Yearbook, they do this kind of thing from time to time. Basically, the message here is, "Look at how long ago our predecessors thought the end is coming! So we'd better be prepared to just wait until it does."
It may seem to you guys to have the effect of discouraging people, but that's because you're ex-Witnesses. The premise here, for a believer, is that the Bible Students were close to the truth overall but simply made this mistake of thinking the end had to come when they expected. So in short, the Society is preparing Witnesses to keep waiting on Jehovah. It's a lesson to "keep on keeping on". Well, I mean, they're not supposed to be serving with a date in mind, right?

Many felt that they would be called beyond the veil, or to heaven, on that date.” Yearbook 2014 p.174
And why might many have felt that? Where else did they get their information and supplies but from the Watchtower? Or did they have unofficial printers like Bennet Cards and Ministry Ideas back then? I would doubt it
Nowadays thay can say that the early Bible Students, prior to 1918 had not been adopted as the F & D S - so perhaps they were just well meaning amateurs...Of course there are plenty of embarassing gaffes after that date too
