WT's Crazed Obsession!

I have recently read for the umpteenth time the 4 Gospel accounts. What caught my attention this time around was how many times Jesus makes mention of the endeared expression ‘Father’ (with ‘F’ in caps) when referring to his God as recorded by Matthew, Mark, Luke and John.

What was also interesting by comparison is how little Jesus actually makes reference to his ‘Father’ on a first name basis (Jehovah) in these four books.

Note my findings with the help of the Comprehensive Concordance:

Jehovah: Matthew 11 times Mark 8 times Luke 26 times John 4 times (Total 49 times).

Father: Mathew 43 times Mark 4 times Luke 21 times John 119 times (Total 187 times).

What is also interesting is that when Jesus does mention ‘Jehovah’ (49 times), for the most part its’ when he is quoting directing from the Hebrew scriptures. But when he is having dialogue with his disciples about God or talking and praying to God himself, he, like a son to a father, refers to Him with the endearing expression ‘Father’.

How soo unlike WT and the rank and files’ crazed disorder of being abnormally consumed with the constant chant and repetition of the name ‘Jahovah’! Their practice of continuous repetition of the divine name is almost cult-like by comparison!

This awareness has helped me to conclude that addressing God on a first name basis borders on being disrespectful and Un-Christian!

Do you have the actual verses where Jesus said "Jehovah"?

You are aware that "Jehovah" does not appear in original text of the New Testament at all. All 237 times have been added by the WTBTS.

It is impossible that Jesus used the name "Jehovah"....and WT knows it:

"Interestingly, Raymundus Martini, a Spanish monk of the Dominican order, first rendered the divine name as "Jehova." This form appeared in his book Pugeo Fidei, published in 1270 C.E. — over 700 years ago."

W 2/1/1980, p.12, "The Divine Name In Later Times"

    ------

by Jesus' time it is likely that the correct pronunciation of YHWH was lost. No one knows how it was pronounced- not even WT.

Now, why would WT use a name for god invented by the Catholics over 1,200 years after Jesus' death, and claim Jesus used that name?

Pixel: 'Do you have the actual verses where Jesus said "Jehovah"?'

Yes, I'll take 1 or 2 from each book and post them.

Designer Stubble: ' You are aware that "Jehovah" does not appear in original text of the New Testament at all'

So I've read, which makes the chanting/repetitive use of 'Jehovah' at meetings and day to day life all the more disrespectful, Un-Christian and Non-Christlike!

True. However, if you accept the premise that Jesus existed as a divine being before coming to earth (not that I do), he certainly would have known how to say it. And it certainly wasn't Jehovah.

And of course, as mentioned, If Jesus used that name so much, why did none of his supposed followers write it down? Instead they used Θέος and Κύριος. The name they spread was that of Jesus.

Personally, I wish they had been a little less zealous about that.

Excellent point, and it only adds to the problem. If the pronunciation of god's name had been lost by the first century c.e., then Jesus, by your stated premise, was in the best position to restore it....but he didn't. And none of the Bible writers after him, including his apostles, did it either. In fact, as already mentioned, god's name does not appear once in the NT----but WT added it in 237 times anyway.

So much for the idea that god wants his name proclaimed and "everlasting life" is dependent on knowing that name...god didn't even care enough to preserve it in his own book ! (if you believe the bible is inspired by god).

Following is the most interesting explanation I have read on the name Jehovah being absent from the Greek scriptures. This from believers of course.

That it was the purpose of YaHWeH of the OT to have the name YHWH go into obscurity. That God was known to the Hebrews and Israelites as Yahweh. But now the true God was to be known to all the world by means of His earthly son. So His purpose changed, that he was no longer just YHWH of the Israelites, but now he was to GOD for all the world. Thus, the name YHWH had finished its purpose. By the time Jeus arrived, the name was known only as a historical reference and was not used in every day worship. Not even by Jesus.

I'm pretty positive Jesus is not quoted as saying Jehovah. The bible books may say it but you won't find Jesus quoted saying it. Now maybe I'm wrong... But I've looked into it before. If Jesus had used that name then It would be heralded by JWs. Instead they say "we can be sure he used his fathers name".

You make a good point that Jesus' preferred reference to God was by the endearing term Father. As already mentioned above, Jesus never said Jehovah, this word has been added dishonestly by the NWT, whereas all records show the word Lord was used - see http://www.jwfacts.com/watchtower/jehovah-new-testament.php. You should trying reading the gospels again from other Bible translations, so as the remove some of the Watchtower slant.
