How long before they back track on the internet

I think relying on the internet will be a major factor in the Watchtower's undoing. It's a damned if they do, damned if they don't situation. Long before I searched for TTATT online I would Google information about Mormons whenever they came to my gate. Why? That is just the custom of the age in which we live. You see something you are unfamilar with and start looking for more information, and the experiences of others.

Want to try a new restaurant? Google it first!

Want to buy a new car? Google it first!

Want to try a new diet? Google it first!

Strangers show up at your door promoting their movement or product? Google it first!

The current norm is to 'shop around' for the most information possible (visit many sites and compare data).

If I knew nothing about the Witnesses, and one of them told me they had an Official Website I would visit it, and then begin to wonder:

Do they have an official Twitter? Youtube? Facebook? What are others saying about them on these sites? Do they have forums?

I'd fire up the trusty old Google and compare the hell out of results.

That has been tried. Once upon a time, a major discussion board among active members was formed, and it was a pro-JW board. Then, the administrators started thinking that it was better to have an open discussion board, and it became an apostate discussion board. And here it is, right here. Running a pro-JW discussion board requires extremely tight moderation. For instance, most of the apostate terms we hear about the religion would be banned for "disrespect for the organization". You know, the terms "bOrg", "witless", "field circus", and so on. Discussion about what a waste of time the a$$emblies are would be banned. As would discussion about what a waste door to door work is, that party they hold every year just before Easter, the damage done to children by the religion, open discussion about the holidays, open political debates that could impact the work, and so on.

Then you would need to moderate against anyone that is disfellowshipped. You see, associating with a disfellowshipped person is grounds to get disfellowshipped yourself. How would the administration know? One could be inactive, borderline regular, a "low hour publisher", or simply an unbaptized publisher, and later become disfellowshipped. How would that be settled? And, how would they track out of date information? You get information about "a generation" from a 2002 post--that is staying right where it is. Then they change it several times, and the old post is still there. Such board would need a means to find and eliminate all the posts about something when it goes out of date, or edit it. It would have to be perfect, and with 3 million posts to search through, there will always be one missed.

Heck, they could do the Written Review on SurveyMonkey.

Still all one-way and not anywhere near Web 2.0.
