Notmyfirstrodeo, I'm very sorry for the loss of your brothers. You have been through a really terrible time. I lost both my parents and my husband within four years so I have an idea. I am glad you are getting help for the drinking. Not sure I am the right person to answer the question about will the Creator hear your prayer, but I hear you and many others on this forum will hear you and answer you too. Take care

Notmyfirstrodeo – “I'm thinking I should re-examine just what kind of god Jehovah is - We're doing all we can to get this divorce to go through, and we are living a decent life, will the Creator here my prayers?”
I am sorry to hear of your family loss and misfortunes. Yes, keep praying, and do not give up on our Father because of some self-professed truth holders have misrepresented him. Nor give up finding him out of fear, or guilt, or feelings of worthlessness. Forgive, including yourself, and move forward, find your Father, not in the WatchTower, or in one of man’s churches, but in your heart.
How can so much hatred and judicial condemnation be preached, when Jesus taught us to love our God with all our heart and mind and love our neighbor as ourselves. If we could all follow this one commandment, more would think twice about the collateral damage that shunning and DF’ing does. This is not love, it is ostracizing.

So, on the one hand the unnatural living style of an active jw is such that he is highly more prone to depression than a 'worldly' one, and on the other hand they print magazines to help you with a problem that probably wouldn't be there in the first place if you weren't in the WT!
As with other teachings, the method is: first create the problem, then present our solution (to the problem we created) as a God-given gift.

IS A RESURRECTION POSSIBLE FOR SUICIDE?
YES - Golden Age 1930 17/9 p.825 "Questions and Answers" by Judge Rutherford
It is not conceivable that a sane person would kill himself. At least, he must be temporarily insane. An insane person is not responsible for his deeds, and therefore the Lord would not hold him responsible.NOT IF YOU WERE BAPTISED - w54 5/1 pp. 285-286 Questions From Readers
So if anyone who has dedicated his life to Jehovah God sanely takes his life in suicide, or deliberately murders another person, it is doubtful that Jehovah would remember such a person in the resurrection. However, in the case of a person that did not know Jehovah’s law and was not a dedicated servant of God it would be different. If he died a suicide or as a murderer he would certainly die guilty of grievous sin; but there are many other grievous sins, and for them repentance is possible.
WE DON'T KNOW - w59 7/15 p. 448 Questions From Readers
So nothing definite may be stated at the funeral in the way of a promise concerning the future life of the suicide.YES - g90 9/8 p. 23 Suicides—A Resurrection?
Jehovah, having paid "a ransom in exchange for many," is within his right to extend mercy, even to some self-murderers, by resurrecting them and giving them the precious opportunity to "repent and turn to God by doing works that befit repentance."Splash

Notmyfirstrodeo:
I am so sorry for your losses, I can't imagine it.
" So with A.A. one of the 12 steps is to believe in a "higher power" and with having been a JW for 36 years"
This was a struggle for me, having been a JW and carrying the baggage of it into recovery.
I learned that I didnt' have to be sure of what I believed, that it was more important to recognize that the power of a group of people in recovery could help me.
I also learned that even though I didn't know what my higher power was, or if I believed in god, that I could still pray and feel better.

The last stuff I read from the '80s I think was just very nothingy. As noted, more prayer, more reading publications, more of stuff that doesn't help..........but no seeking professional help.
The WBT$ is a very dangerous cult. I look forward to seeing some critique of the new articles.
I wonder what crazy Ant Morris 3rd type crappola they'll say?

The organisation thrives on misery to make its promises more palatable. If you are a happy, fulfilled individual, those promises hold little appeal. JWs in particular and religion in general needs you first to be downhearted and miserable to see some point in listening. The fact that their outlook is fiercely consoling on the one hand and oriented towards destroying all who do not listen speaks to the "kind" of people they are trying to reach. Little wonder, your typical Witness and their hangers-on are troubled, depressive sorts.

This is very troubling. As someone who battles with depression and negative thoughts regularly, I am disappointed and alarmed that their first words of advice aren't seek professional help. But that's not what they really want...because if a person does seek professional help and counseling, it just might open their eyes to what's really going on. Everything about this religion sickens me.

Sorry to read of your battles with depression , Diana.. I can only extend my support and hope that it gets better.
To be fair, the Awake does recommend seeking professional help from " A good physician", but I agree that this is in the middle of the mag, (Because There Is Help) not the first thing they say
At least they no longer teach that suicides have blown their chance of a ressurection!

A quote from an Elder at my KH, " It's like..suicide man, what can you do, you know?? You can't KNOW is someone's going to do it? What can you do?"
That's how much education the Elders have about it, or any other word you want to add in that sentence to replace "suicide." They have zero training. They are simply regurgitating what they are told by others who are uneducated about mental health. It's not as simple as quoting a couple of pamphlets about suicide in an Awake, and then saying to talk to God.
