Having witnessed the damage to Elsewhere's car firsthand, I can say I am now a true believer in air bags, and that I promise, promise, promise to always wear my seatbelt. (Still amazed someone could walk away from a mangled car like that.)
The sob story continues,,,

Are seatbelts mandatory in the USA? They are here in Oz, you can be fined for not wearing your seatbelt, or even if one of your passengers aren't wearing one.
Elsewhere - sorry that you've had another set-back. I hope you saw a dr about your whiplash, or that you see one very soon. Just to be careful.
Sending heaps of good vibes your way to counteract the bad ones you've been having.

Elsewhere,
I echo everyone's sentiments in saying "Glad you're ok!"
I was going to ask whether your car was officially "totaled", as in "Beyond all hope of repair", but Megadude's post answered that question.
Will the insurance co give you enough money to buy a new car?

glad you're ok - but do get yourself to a doc and have your neck checked - at least an x-ray - don't fool around with whiplash!
Love, Scully

I'm so glad you didn't get hurt beyond the bruises.
Things WILL get better, hang in there.

most (all now??) states require front seat passengers and children under 12 anywhere in a vehicle to wear their seatbelts. there are also infant/toddler car seat laws etc.

Elsewhere,
Sorry to hear about your accident.
The last accident I had was when I was 17...I rolled a VW rabbit.
I was scared to drive after that...try not to let this accident get to you.Lizard

HI Elsewear,
So, glad you are ok!
I was in a car accident in Jan 2001. Went head on into a Mid 80's pick-up that decided to make a illegal left turn in front of me. There was no time for me to stop either. I hit him doing 50mph and I was driving a little Toyota with my kids in the back seat. All of us were buckled in. Just a few scratches on the kids and I ended up with a broken foot; it took most of the impact from slamming on the brakes.
My car was totaled. Made me a believer in seatbelts, that is for certain. My daughter and I had massive bruises where the lap and shoulder belts held us in (My son was in a car seat). Those heal though. I can't even imagine the outcome had we not been wearing them.
I get so damn furious when I see people driving down the road with their kids either on their laps or standing on the back seat .
Yes, it's the law that people wear their seatbelts, but morons out their still think that it can't happen to them.EVERYONE! WEAR YOUR SEATBELTS!
