There's a photo of Shasta Lake near where I live -- it's very sad now to see how low the lake is. And Governor Brown is being really wimpy about it, suggesting we not flush our toilets as often as usual. What's going to happen when 25 million people can't get water?

We are in deeeep dodo here in California. The governor just enacted a 20% voluntary reduction in water usage, it should be 40% mandatory.

Is that water you guys make yourselves Cantleave ? Or are you offering some of Hampshire's spare drops from the odd shower you have had lately ?

As to Cally, I hope they get a wetter year this time, it really is so awful to see people losing their homes to fire.

Phizzy- locally in, Southern California, we had 1 major storm back in November and that's been it. Our local mountains look like they do in August.

    Hi Hortensia:

I, like you, live in one of the wettest regions of CA. Normally. The few "storms" we've had since November have been mere showers, for the most part. Surprisingly, on Wednesday it actually rained for about 6 hours nonstop. Still not enough.

    Happy weekend.

I lie in San Diego, and its dry as a bone. In fact this is a 14 year drought. We have no snow pack. No reservoirs. Its a bad situation. And we aren't in as much trouble as Vegas is. But they reuse so much of their water its amazing.

I'm not exactly sure what governor Jerry Brown is supposed to do other than tell people to please use less for now. Is he supposed to be doing a rain dance or something?

The problem isn't just this year. Its the next several, because the trend is only going to get worse.

This is one of the reasons why I left socal in 2007 and moved to Oregon. When you have too many people concentrated in a small area it's a disaster waiting to happen. Come to Oregon, plenty of water, great local wines and beers, beautiful greenery, and you can get a nice house for much less.

Designs -- I agree. I don't know why the gov. is being so wimpy about it. People shouldn't be watering their lawns or filling their pools or running their fountains or washing their cars, there are lots of things that ought to be done to conserve water right now.

I'm pretty frugal with water anyway -- coming from San Diego and Palm Springs -- but I can see we have to do more.

CC - same here. Even people who ordinarily hate the snow are worried about our lack of snow this year. One snowstorm late last year, that's it. And it melted in a few days. Poor old Mt. Shasta got some snow this week, but it will be gone in a couple of days. It has been bald all winter instead of having its normal deep snow all winter.
