They must be willing to act as servants to their companions, not masters over them.

Fine words, but did you ever know an elder removed for lacking humility or acting as a Boss?? I have known many good men removed for all sorts of reasons, but never that.

The overseers’ zealous determination to devote time and effort to preaching the good news despite their busy schedule encourages the whole congregation to display similar zeal.

Frankly, this makes the job impossible to perform, unless he is retired or works part time. How many Companies would expect a supervisor to have the same work productiviy output as the team of workers, and yet still be an effective supervisor? It cannot be done. The elders field ministry record is recorded and reviewed by the C/O , so what is allowed to slide? The shepherding of the flock which is not monitored,

I was always under great pressure to Aux Pioneer in April, but nobody ever asked me how the shepherding was being done. Unless they change the emphasis, the cong will continue to get hit or miss attention.....NB If he is on the RBC or such like he can get credits for field ministry hours . I guess that shows their priorities.....

You raised some excellent questions, Blondie, which really pick the eyes out of the wt assumptions. Thanks :)

This WT study is a brilliant way to get the R&F to accept bullying by the elders: 'Rather than trying to force his associates in the congregation to act in a certain way, a good spiritual shepherd thinks in terms of appealing to their heart.' = lay a huge guilt trip to ensure compliance...

actually in theory, the article was not so bad, but just in theory....

elders should adhere to the scriptures, well does it count for the elders who compromise the GB too ?

and where are the scriptures for beard, higher education, blood fractions, monthly report, etc ?

That was just an article to placate the sheep after 3 weeks of OBEY OBEY OBEY. They have to throw these articles in from time to time to make the sheep feel like they have some rights etc. It sounds good on paper, but has many obvious holes like the elders enforsing pharasaical, unscriptural mandates from headquarters and being allowed to make rules of their own.

Not to worry, next week is back to more fear, guilt, and obedience training

By the way thanks a million Blondie as always- BU2B

Great job, Blondie! I like this format you used; it clearly differentiates the questions and paragraphs of the study article under consideration from the quotes and comments that have been added.

I commented on paragraph four of this Watchtower study about how Christian shepherds should treat the sheep. I said that the elders should not be lording it over the sheep, and not be harsh or demanding or coerce people into following the directives and policies of man [i.e., the GB] because we are all God’s children. (Of course, any such little thoughts I embed in my comments will never really reach the conscious, logical processing part of the brains of the vast majority of those in attendance.)

I got a kick especially out of paragraph 13 where it talks about one of the qualifications that must be met by a man who is 'reaching out for an office of overseer.' It says in part:

'He needs to be "sound in mind" and must be "presiding over his own household in a fine manner."

The COs and DOs in our circuit over the past several decades have always harped on the congregations about the amount of youth who are leaving the 'Truth' when they become of age. They seem to blame the rank and file parents for this trend of the youth leaving.

I can say that the elders in our circuit have done just as bad a job if not worse in parenting than your average JW parent.

To this day there are elders who are used extensively on CA and DC parts whose children have left the 'truth'. I personally know of 10 to 15 elders who have raised 2 and 3 children who are either df'd with no intention of returning and others who have just faded away. Four of these elders are in the congregation I attend. Many of these other elders are even serving as COBEs in the circuit!

It seems the elders among Jehovah's Witnesses have done the shittiest job of 'presiding over his own household in a fine manner'! The proof is in the pudding!

WT refuses to admit to how bad many of Jehovah's Witness elders have failed as parents. Worse yet they continue to be used quite abundantly as Teachers and Shepherds throughout the circuits!

Something is waaaay wrong with that picture!

Thank you again & again Blondie for your hard work.
