I look at three forums pretty much every day, this one, a knitting/crochet forum and a weight-loss forum. They are so different. The weight-loss site has loads of useful apps, but the forum consists of posts by people who are mostly pretty young, self-absorbed and ill-informed except on a narrow range of information, mainly weight-lifting, working out, and starving themselves.

The folks on the knitting/crochet forum are extremely polite, politically correct, and obey rules very carefully. Other than that, there are some seriously creative people with amazing artistic talent that expresses itself in fiber arts. Me, I like knitting, so it's interesting to see what things people are designing and knitting. Not so much interested in crochet.

JWN, aside from a few whackdoodles, has some really interesting, intelligent people and some of the discussions are very deep and teach me a lot. Not that I contribute to the deeply meaningful threads -- I'm more of a fluff thread person.

That's all. Nothing significant here, except what I've noticed about the people on each forum. As I said, I'm pretty trivial and interested in fluff.

I leave you with a link to Stephen West designs -- he designs knitting patterns and I guess you could call his work haute couture.

I like your analysis. Thanks for the fluffy post.

I love knitting, crochet, and other needle arts. I have one of those expensive embroidery sewing machines, but never use it. Someday, I will make time for crafts again. My daughter, now 7, is also a crafter. She collects things out of the kitchen trash and makes creations out of them. Haha... that is becoming frustrating sometimes. She's taught herself to crochet, and can do plastic canvas also.

I am actually trying to cut back on online message boards, but I am susceptible to this type of social network. I don't work outside the home, and I love getting the perspective of others on issues that are important to me. I like this forum, because the likelyhood that anyone here knows who I am is pretty slim... If you are a JW who is reading this, and know me, please stop by! I won't tell.

In other words, I have no friends. Sometimes the whackadoodles hurt my feelings, but I find this message board to be extremely helpful. The advice and criticism I receive here have honed me a lot, as I make progress toward learning how to deal with JWs in my life. (Or maybe I am one of the whackadoodles... if so, I'm happy to add a little spice to conversation. Personally, I love drama.)

Happy knitting, Hortensia! What do you like to knit?

I really want to start knitting socks, and have it become such second nature, that I am always carrying my knitting with me. I've made a couple of sweaters, several hats and a few mittens. Just one pair of socks (they matched!!) I just don't seem to spend much time sitting around lately. I'm always doing other things. I long to knit and crochet. Until the day I have time to sit still and do it, I will continue adding to my yarn collection. I see Michael's has a big sale on Lion Brand yarn this week.

At this point I'm convinced that the only JWs who are still IN and NOT HERE are the non-thinking ones.

    Think about it:

    > One "over-lapping" generation.

    > One hundred years of uneventful Kingdom Rule.

    > Kick Russell under the bus.

    > Jesus' F&DS = 8 guys that wouldn't have even qualified to nibble and sip a few years ago.

    > Ca$hing in on all the expensive RE assets while begging for more money.

    > $28,000,000 judgement for doing the same thing they condemn the RCC of doing. (more to come)

IF anyone truly was a thinking person, they'd be thinking about that sh!t.

    Good morning, Hortensia:

We got eleven inches of rain (so we won't be burning for the moment), and knit one, purl two is running rampant through my brain, thank you very much.

As politically correct as I can be, which is pretty darn good, your fluffy threads are as stimulating to my little gray cells as they would be to cher Hercule, were he here to comment . . .

    Everymore,

I also enjoy several other forums, hystersisters being one of them. On the surface it is a forum for women who have had hysterectomy's' but there is so much more. It is a real support forum for women in all stages of their lives and offers support for more than menopause. It is a very good group and is well moderated.

I love knitting socks, especially because once you "get it" you don't need a pattern. I learned the "tomato heel" recently and that makes socks so much easier.

It's nice not to be so damned serious and ready to condemn everything -- which is the JW way of life. I enjoy a little fluff. Or, as in the case of ravelry.com, a LOT of fluff. Fluffy fibers.

What did you think of Stephen West's designs? Some folks on Ravelry find his stuff a little bit weird and intimidating.

CC -- it is raining here, too. Lots of rain, but not 11 inches yet, unfortunately. We need every drop. My heart is a little sad, today. I really really really want to go for a drive in the rain. But, I don't have a car. Oh well, I'm getting one in May. Patience, soul, patience . . .

That Steven West....men DRESS like that? I feel so provincial...

I agree, we have some thinkers here, which makes it nice for me. I don't talk like this in real life, except with my son when we are drunk on ideas.

I think West's designs are avant garde - I don't think people really wear them much, but his patterns are very popular. Knitting as avant garde art, I guess. I like the colors he uses, and the lines of his designs. I don't know that he's especially unique in his techniques, I've seen other stuff much more technical than his but without the spark and excitement. However, some of the faces his model makes -- or is that Stephen West? -- are a little creepy.

Thanks for sharing, they are interesting designs, I like his color combinations. I do not knit or crochet, but I do other creative things: antiques, sewing, floral, jewelry and collage. I find that once you learn to be creative, you can translate that to many endeavors. I like the challenge in thinking up new things to do. Pinterest has been a huge help, there are all kind of ideas, and instruction for just about any thing you can think up, it has revolutionized my work. Last week I was making pillow out of burlap coffee bags, this week I am making necklaces.

I love to hear whatever you have to say Hortensia. Fluff is good. Drama doesn't interest me much. I do like Downtown Abbey though, light drama is okay. Wests knit designs were pretty artsy fartsy but I found a few things I would wear. I like hand made knit stuff because it so textureful. If I were a knitter I would enjoy picking out yarn and deciding on colors.

I had the occasion to spend time with a knitter a few months back. My sister had an out of town visitor come to town for a few days and I helped her entertain the guest and her boyfriend. The weird thing was that she was always knitting. If we went somewhere she brought her stuff. If we were sitting around she was knitting. When they came over here for dinner, she brought it. It was kind of strange. I would never do that to that extent if I were a knitter. It was fun going into a cool knitting store. That was on her list of things to do in Seattle. I might take it up one day.
