I think, though, just to be fair, that the WT writers may have been thinking of other cultures and practices when they wrote this, because I heard or read (probably in the WT somewhere, lol) that in China or ancient China, or perhaps among other cultures, that this was an acceptable practice to calm babies. But for us reading this statement today without any context of that sort of background to which they could have been referring, sounds weird and sick and twisted and just wrong, wrong, wrong!

No offense to any from Holland here, but I knew a sister from Holland who calmed her sleeping grandchildren that way. That's not China or someplace exotic. And she had no qualms about recommending the practice to sisters in America. However, that was 20 years ago, or more. She would probably be taken out back and shot nowadays.

I had completely forgotten that sick quote. I have never heard of such a practice upon babies in any culture as a regular form of comforting a child. Pedophiles can be women as well as men and the story of the Holland grandma was just a sicko pedophile plain and simple.
