I was in one of those congs that all the corrupt elders flocked to. If they lost their privileges in another cong, they just moved to ours & they were reinstated within a short time. Any good elders would leave. My attendance was irregular cause of the way they treated me. Why go if ppl ignore you or said nasty lies about you. 4 years ago I missed the meeting where the blood card was given out So I missed out. I did ask our book conductor to give me one But I guess he couldn't be bothered. I haven't had one since...

I know I removed it from my wallet well before I left.

Did not fill in the associated legal paperwork (Australia) for about three-and-a-half years.

Then probably removed the card from my wallet when we walked out for good mid-2009.

For me, it was about 1 or 2 months after I decided to leave. The blood issue was always a biggie for me. I was born with major complications and needed multiple blood transfusions. My mom signed a document refusing me the life saving transfusions. My dad, a non JW, told the doctors or nurses to lose or tear up what ever my mom signed and to give me the transfusion.

Shortly before I even considered leaving the org, they changed the blood policy allowing fractions as a “conscience” decision. That was one of many things that began my awakening.

I remember the night I tore up the No Blood Card well. I was out of town working, stating in a hotel. I decided right then and there, just after reading jwfacts and other sites to tear it up. It felt liberating. I had been reading different articles and sites for months prior to that night.

Maybe it was cognitive dissonance, but I never thought what my mom did was wrong. In 27 years I always thought she did what she thought was right. I never had anger or sadness about her decision until I woke up. Now, I don’t feel anger, she is brainwashed.

When they came out with the new blood cards I never filled one in and kept my old, old tattered one in my wallet because I was so scared that I would choose the wrong answer. My dad had a really horrible accident (never a JW) and required something like 25 transfusions over all his surgeries, so it was one thing I was so thankful for and really made me think. Then I changed wallets recently and 'forgot' to put it in my new one. As an interesting note, I'm pretty sure my husband doesn't have his in his wallet either, but I don't want to ask him in case it prompts him to put it back in.

I now carry a medical directive card that says I will take all forms of medical assistance including blood transfusions if need be in an emergency.

We started fading 19 month ago. I think a couple of weeks after reading COC I put it threw the shredder and it felt so liberating.

Some years ago I lost my card, and never bothered to replace it. In the fading process now and I am actually thinking about giving blood as a therapy to confirm that I have moved on.
