Steve2= I'm willing to bet that in 2017 they will announce "due to the recent decrease in use of the assembly hall. The governing body has lovingly decided to simplify and reduce the burden to our brothers by selling the hall". I bet they have already set their eyes on it. I'm just curious to know why in the time of the end are they cutting back on the fine instruction at the house of Jehovah. My number one guess is that its now just no longer viable. Although i find this hard to believe as using the assembly hall that I attended, especially after they set up the ATM's. There always seemed to be plenty of money left over. But I'm not saying this is the case every where though.

As for replicating the Israel festivals. One problem with the religion is that it followed the premise of "no one ever got fired for buying IBM", by means of "No one ever got criticized for following the Bible". Something said and done 4000 years ago is not going to be relevant today. Today has its own problems and solutions. I am so tired of this.

Yes joe, money - or its lack - talks volumes.
I recall being a very restless child (but thankfully not noisy) who was very fortunate to have parents who were softies. The worst my parents ever did was give me brief black looks when I squirmed off and on the hard seats for hour after hour after hour. My mother would promsie me sweets if I kept still. It worked for maybe 10 minutes. No distractions, no toys - although as I got older I preferred thumbing through the publications.
My salvation was being able to read at an early age: Reading keep me sane during tediously long programmes and helped me escape the organization when I was older. My parents were also some of the few JW parents who deplored parents hitting their children to keep them quiet. My mother used to help the younger JW women look after their children during meetings and conventions. I once said to her, "You'd do anything not to have sit through this like we have to" and she nodded and laughed.

They probably are doing away with the title Special Assembly Day
because the acronym spells SAD which is what most witnesses were when the date for the
meeting was announced and even more so when sitting through the meeting itself.
Now it will be just two CA a year. What does CA stand for I wonder?

In fewer than 30 years, Circuit Assemblies have reduced from 3 days (Fri-Sat-Sun) to 2.5 days (Fri night-Sun) to 2 days (Sat-Sun) to one day. This bodes positively for the future.
Just a monor quibble, it's been well over 40 years since the last 2.5 day CA, and well over 50 since the last 3 day.

Assemblies are designed to harness the herd mentality by providing the reassurance of being around so many like minded people. It sends the message - look at how many believe the WBTS message, there are so many of us who believe it must be true! It is also a great opportunity to wheel out the model Pioneers to make everyone feel inadequate and guilt them into giving more time and money.

Assemblies and conventions are the closest event to a 'Holiday' for Jehovah's Witnesses.
It's like a family reunion of sorts - with your 'NEW' family. We travel together, we spend the whole day together, we eat together, we sleep under the same roof together, we all dress (look) alike, we talk alike, we read together, we take pictures of each other, we find our future husband or wife, we hug, laugh, cry, sing & reminisce, talk about the dead and the sick members of our 'family', congratulate the newlyweds and new parents, listen to experiences and hardships of our 'family'; applaud their accomplishments, strength and determination.
Meanwhile the aged non-JW parent sits alone in the living room wishing that his children and grandchildren would come visit him for one weekend this year...but their lives are just so busy now-a-days.

There is less to discuss. Back when Boozerford was in charge, much was going on within the organization. That thing was organizing field circus and making all sorts of doctrines that were utter rubbish. Knorr introduced major phobias regarding sex, banned birthdays, and continued growing bogus doctrine. Fred Franz continued refining things, adding more rubbish that often took many days to explain. New littera-trash was coming out during those years.
Now, everything that comes out can be switched for anything else. They don't want anyone doing anything associated with sex, anything that could preclude attending a boasting session, or looking at independent viewpoints. They do want everyone pious-sneering (even if they have to nurf the hours to get everyone guilted into doing it--having everyone commit to 30 is better than having very few commit to 60). They also want everyone doing without things they might need when the banking system goes into hyperinflation or your electricity and gas becomes less than reliable. The rags all say about the same thing. Hence, there is no need for as much space or time. I could come up with a single 5 minute program that would give the essence of a whole 3-day Grand Boasting Session without much trouble, and so why not nurf the a$$embly?
Besides, they get the same mandatory deficit on the last day anyways if there is only one day as they do if there are two.
