Welfare and Witnesses

I'm ignorant to the social welfare programs outside the US, but listening to others I have to assume in Europe it is more generous. I've not had deep personal conversation with active witnesses for nearly 20 years. Last year I made contact with a family and some Elders came to my house. But I avoided personal conversation and stuck to explanations on all the changes in WT doctrine.

As a child I can recall only one family that had money, but they moved to my congregation towards the end of my childhood. A lot of families were on welfare, especially those that consisted of pioneers. My mother worked full-time, and my father was a high school teacher and held jobs on weeknights teaching at the prison, and weekends doing financial auditing. He was very grumpy and a mean SOB at times (nothing physical just so tired and wanted to sleep).

One day this Elder came to our house and started to condemn my father for buying a "new" car. It was actually a used car, my family never had a "new" car. He told my father he was pursuing material things and should come back to the kingdom hall. My father was never baptized and study with the witnesses for about five years. He stopped when I was about 12 because of the hypocrisy he saw within the congregation and the favoritism that was given to JW elder's children.

This same Elder that criticized my father, never worked a single day throughout my time in the organization. He was the anointed I mentioned in another thread. His wife worked full-time, and he "pioneered". His extended family were on food stamps, medicaid, ect.. This allowed his daughter to be a pioneer. These pioneers and elders will condemn others for pursuing material things over spiritual matters, but they don't know what its like to support a family just on your income alone.

The WT has one of the best business plans I've seen. Free labor, tax free income, and its workers are subsidized by tax payers.

oh and their charity work "we teach literacy" what a scam

On one hand they claim that governments are run by Satan, but on the other they have no objection to receiving benefits from them.

I knew a brother who was claiming unemployment & disability benefits because of his "condition". When I found out that he was signed up as a trainee brick-layer with the RBC, I withdrew from giving him advice on how to deal with government departments regarding his assessments.

Knew a JW elder & partaker) who finally, after much effort, got on disability for blindness. All the while he was "blind" he worked as a tradesman and had all the people he worked for make out his his checks to his daughter so he wouldn't get caught. I know that because one of the people he worked for called me and was disturbed by it.

I've seen it.....people completely able-bodied but too lazy to work and they find loopholes to siphon funds out of the system - then turn around and play all holy "pioneering". and the working people have to pay the taxes to support their lazy arses. it is totally unethical - but ethics seem to be a lost art in certain circles...............

I know an elder who refused to take a good paying job to provide for his growing family because he would have to work every other Saturday morning.

Instead he does odd jobs, collects food stamps and other handouts and "takes the lead in the ministry"

What is the official view of the organization on receiving welfare payments and pioneering at the same time? Does it have a view on this? Or is it left to inidividuals' consciences?

My cousin is an elder and he is on disability from the age 28. He never worked physically, but has plenty of time to milk welfare, free housing while doing all this field work for the least +/-25 years.

Elders in my KH was investigated for welfare fraud couple years ago. He and his wife claimed no income, so they got government housing and allowance. They both are active JWs with field service. However, they had under the table illegal income which was eventually traced by the tax agency and were charged with fraud. The city kicked them out of the public housing and they were also tried to run away to foreigner country. I could ask my mom how many of JWs in her congregation are on welfare and are capable to work.
