A priest is someone acting between two parties. A mediator, an agent, etc.

But in the Bible there was a specific role called priest. They were only men.

In the Catholic church... who cares about what the Cathoic church does?

It sounds like you are a good fit for the C of E.

I have carried a lot of responsibility in my secular career, which has not matched my level of responsibility in the church. Because I am a woman. Seems a silly waste to me. I do think I helped an elder's group past an impasse when they were embroiled in land negotiations next to the church property. Within the year the church had acquired the land, which now has a parking lot and a community garden. A small word dropped in due season.

Personally I think it is great that women are barred (read protected) from becoming part of the "ruling religious clergy class" (Pharisees).

In my experience "religion" and the unabridged gospel lead in opposite directions.

Men seem to be "naturally" good at creating and promoting religion, war and division.

Women on the other hand seem naturally more inclined to community, spirituality and faith.

Even scripture suggests that women will play a major part in revealing and promoting God's ultimate solution for transforming human society:

"The women telling the good news are a large army" (Psalm 68:11).

Whilst I do believe in the priesthood (and sainthood) of all believers including women, this priesthood (and sainthood) differs considerably from manmade imitations.

A few prominent women who would in my humble opinion qualify as a preist in recent times are :

    Emma Curtis Hopkins

    Mary baker Eddy

    Ellen G White

Each of them had quite considerable influence in religous thought over many people during their lifetime even extending down to today.

I couldnt do them justice commenting here.

If you are interested google their names.

Good topic! I been dinged in other forms because I stand to go against ex elders who think that they should abide by Pauls teachings.

What would Paul do in our modern times? Many nondenominational churches believe men are the head of the congregations as pastors.

Although most men are qulified but so are women! Non denominational is not progressive enough.

Lately I started thinking that Paul would place women on equal terms in modern Christianity.

It really is tough to find progresseive churches, women to be elders and pastors, that are still teaching high morals standards.

Sure would like to find one! I would go but the bottom line they need good sermons!

I need to add that Pauls writing are fine until I read some of his out dated congregations leadership.

I have a suggestion for you and hubby for a great compromise , why dont you both join The Episcopal Church , they consider themseves as Protestant yet Catholic , embracing the Church of England and Catholicism in the one religion , and they do ordain women priests .

Seriously this could be the start of something truly beautiful , he goes to your church , you go to his church ? , this way you both go to the one church

and save that conflict as little as it is.

How about Susanna Wesley whose home church became so popular she had to explain to her husband how it came about? There's a famous letter where she humbly explains how it happened.

Then there's Hannah Whitall-Smith, a lay preacher and writer in the holiness movement. I've become more enamoured of her as she bravely changed her beliefs later in life.

The problem with women in authority is: Wasn't the only person in congress who voted against entering WWII a woman?

Jeannette Pickering Rankin - A lifelong pacifist, she was one of fifty members of Congress who voted against entry into World War I in 1917, and the only member of Congress who voted against declaring war on Japan after the attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941 ""As a woman I can't go to war," she said, "and I refuse to send anyone else."

Women ain't got the balls to do what it takes.
