Here in The Netherlands (extreme liberal) I hear more and more JW children about having attended a birthday party.

It seems that the more liberal JW's here have no problem with it.

I know of an elders wife who attends birthday & Christmas parties. She was also the first one to shun my best friend when she stopped attending meetings...

It's technically not a DF offense.

I would imagine, though, if well-known, it would lead to "loss of additional mind-numbing busywork privileges".

I bet it could be considered "brazen conduct" if they don't heed the counsel.

Seems to be on a need to know basis, many just let their kids attend and say nothing to anyone, just make sure no pics turn up on fb.

I’ve come to the conclusion that Dave Barry has correctly interpreted the scriptures that the JWs use to warn against celebrating Birthdays.

There comes a time when you should stop expecting other people to make a big deal about your birthday.
That time is: age 11. --

Attending birthday parties is fine. Just don't eat any of the celebratory foods or put on party hats or sing Happy Birthday or blow out candles. Stick to the wall like a barnacle to a boat and you'll be fine. Later, ease your stricken conscience with a stiff drink or two and pray like mad for forgiveness. Your guilt-stricken sense of disproportion will keep you on the straight and narrow.

It’s quite okay to molest and rape the kiddies whilst retaining elder/overseer privileges (long as there’s no third person there to play peekaboo) and then kill those wee kiddies by refusing them emergency medical treatment – that’s all just quite fine and dandy when you’re in JW land. Just don’t give them a birthday party and have them blow out those pagan candles, and certainly DON’T let them see you propose a toast and clink your glasses – now THAT would be just too much!

And the internal passive-agressive rebellion against the WTS's fatwas quietly continues...
