" What differentiates it from any other mythology's creation myth?" Only its relatively late date compared to a lot of the others, it probably wasn't written until about 800 B.C though the oral story/stories were probably older.

It is still a difficulty that Bible believers, believers that is in a fairly literal way, simply cannot get over, the Facts keep on being at odds with the Bible version of things.

Science is all theory with proofs that are constantly being tried again and again , to prove false. The nature of science is to disprove a theory. When one can't disprove after so long of a time it becomes accepted as "fact", but do we realy know all facts whe new evidence is sometimes discovered? We humans can never be fully and completely sure of everything. In studying about the string theory that was evident to me. There is so much we DON'T know.

How about Adam and Eve were the first created humans by God, and they themselves are the "missing link". I know I'll be blasted for that. But it's a thought I have had. Plenty of questions remain.

Bible is a guidebook with plenty of handed down verbal then written stories through centuries. Stories created to teach lessons. I do believe the word of God is in the Bible, but not that each story is literal. Teaching stories tend to stray out of reality to prove points or teach lessons.

    Phizzy -

How will the WT and other Bible Literalists (an untenable position by the way) get around the facts ?

As Homer Simpson said: "Phfft! Facts. You can use them to prove anything.''

    Facts are from Satan.

    Fundies are weirdos. FACT!

I don't know enough about the dating process to have an informed opinion. I know that a JW will say that Science is wrong. So the burden of proof will be on you.

JWS will say scientific dating can't be trusted. After the flood of Noah's day () when the water canopy () was removed, earth's atmospheric conditions changed very much. So much so that any and all dating methods which "apparently" point to dates prior to 4026 BC for the existence of man are clearly wrong.

Do you seriously think that JWs have not encountered this argument, and dozens of other similar ones, before?

I think JW's have probably encountered similar arguments before, but I raised this with one a short while ago, and he has "to get back to " me on it, I shan't hold my breath.

The water canopy of course is a fiction too, along with a Flood at the time it has supposed to have occurerd, and of course a Global Flood never did, so using one bit of fiction to support another is hardly convincing.

There is no limit to what someone suffering from cognitive dissonance will clutch onto to make the cognitive dissonance go away. Logic, reason and common sense do not feature.

JWs on dating humankind: "The dating methods used to date these human remains are at fault. They're based on assumptions that may not be true. Bible chronology is clear that mankind is 6000 years old."

JWs on dating the planet: "Scientific evidence and dating methods show that the earth is much older than 6000 years. This view does not contradict Genesis since the bible doesn't tell us when the earth was created."

The inconsistency in JW thinking where they accept scientific dating methods when it comes to the age of the earth but reject them when it comes to the age of humankind, is very telling of the intellectual hypocrisy of the organization. Sad to say, but it seems like at the end of the day, the JW organization is no different that Ken Ham. They start with the conclusion that the bible is the inerrant word of God and will reject any and every bit of solid evidence that goes contrary to what it says. The fact that JWs accept that the planet could be billions of years old is not due to them having a more reaonable approach to truth than Ken Ham. It's only because they have a different interpretation of the Genesis account than Ken Ham. The JWs display the same repugnant attitude to truth as Ken Ham, when it comes to their rejection of facts like the age of humankind and the year that Jerusalem was destroyed by Babylonians. So what makes JWs different to Ken Ham is their interpretation of the bible - not their having a superior approach toward finding and accepting truth.

    - Humans are imperfect, as are scientists, and we can't accept what they say as fact now as it is always changing. Only the Bible has been proven true to be fact via fulfilled prophecies and showing the right way to live one's life. Dating methods are not exact, and we can't trust them as-is.

    - Neanderthals are obviously part of the human "kind" and were probably a tribe of humans like Cain's family, or possibly even a relationship to Nephilim and such. Neanderthals existing does not disprove the Bible.

The only way out of this is to show that the Bible is -not- either the "best way of living" or have fulfilled prophecies, which will auto-apostacize you in their minds and either get you DFed or ignored.
