from a new WT article (May, I think) about predicting the future. And I quote:

    • RELIGIOUS LEADERS sometimes predict tragic worldwide events to warn mankind and gather followers. Doomsday prophet Harold Camping and his disciples widely advertised that the earth would be destroyed in 2011. Needless to say, the world is still here.

Harold Camping got his message out in a Few Months..

The WBT$ has been at it for over 130 years, very few people know what the WBT$ Message is..

Great find. No doubt the average JW will NOT see the obvious point.

Cognitive dissonance and confirmation bias are twin bitches of the mind.

Some Successes, Many Failures (May, 2014)

Would you like to know your future? The notion appeals to many. There are a lot of people who predict upcoming events—with varying results. Consider the following:

    • SCIENTISTS utilize sophisticated equipment and vast amounts of money to forecast various matters, such as how pollution will eventually affect the earth and whether it will rain in your neighborhood tomorrow.

    • PROFESSIONAL ANALYSTS predict trends in business and politics. Warren Buffett, one of the wealthiest people in the world, has been dubbed an oracle for his successful business investments. Nate Silver, another analyst, has interpreted statistics to help him make predictions about everything from U.S. politics to Hollywood film awards.

    • ANCIENT SOURCES have been interpreted as prophecies. Some people see modern-day fulfillment in the vague writings of 16th-century Michel de Notredame (Nostradamus). A Mayan calendar cycle that ended on December 21, 2012, was interpreted by some as a portent of cataclysmic events.

    • RELIGIOUS LEADERS sometimes predict tragic worldwide events to warn mankind and gather followers. Doomsday prophet Harold Camping and his disciples widely advertised that the earth would be destroyed in 2011. Needless to say, the world is still here.

    • THE FAITHFUL AND WISE SERVANT What does the record show? Unlike these other charlatans, the record shows proof, to anyone with an open mind, that the organization of Jehovah's Christian Witnesses has been uniquely selected by Jehovah God and mandated to fortell events with utmost precision. Yes the F&DS has been predicting events accurately for over 130 years based on angelic guidance and holy spirit direction. All this speaks to the undeniable fact, that to us alone, the Bible is an open book.

    "GOD’S PROPHECIES VERSUS HUMAN PREDICTIONS
Human predictions are often based on such factors as scientific research, analysis of available facts and trends, or even bogus spiritual insight". p.6

Scientists, professional analysts, business leaders, and ancient sources are grouped together as "charlatans."

And yet somehow JWs faithful and discreet slave (here called the "faithful and wise servant"... wassup with thatchange WT?) are a separate class?

This is the sort of name-calling stemming from arrogance that completely made me sick while in. So happyI'm out and no longer expose my children to this garbage!

A Jdub just left this magazine in my door. I skipped to the last pharagraphs of the article to see how they spun the conclusion. Here is what it said "Is there a reliable forecast involving your future and that of your loved ones?....The Witnesses are not psychics nor do they claim to hear spirit voices or to have any special powers of prediction. They are students of the Bible who can show you the good things that God is actively arranging for your future."
