Nephew Giving Once-Big-Shot-Elder Financial Aid

A borderline JW kept trying to talk me out of college. Repeating the company line regarding the evils of education made her feel good about herself.

Many years passed and I'm now financially set. She has a live-in boyfriend (she's been inactive for a while and has never been disfellowshipped) and can't leave him since she can't afford to pay rent by herself.

    Stupid fu*king religion.

Not quite following the scenario: is the elder his dad or just an aquaintance, and is the one trying to stay out of prison his biological brother? And why has this person gone broke? Just not sure on the relationships here, but my, what lovely irony

The elder is not related to my nephew.

The elder went broke trying to keep the elder's son out of prison.

The elder was always critical of those who sought higher education.

My nephew has a good-paying job because my nephew went to college.

Said elder now has to borrow money from my nephew in order to keep afloat.

    Ironical, isn't it?

" The elder was always critical of those who sought higher education. "_____Syl

I bet that same elder would tell you that there was no need for Schools like Howard, Meharry, and Spellman

" Wait on the Kingdom " He'd say

    .

    .

    * sigh *

Your nephew is certainly demonstrating "undeserved kindness" to someone he apparently has no obligation to do so. I hope he lets the elder know that the help he is receiving is coming courtesy of higher education!

    Yes, indeed, he would, Wuz.

A WT man to the max.

    Safe, see my post #22573.

Most of the families that came in the brog around the same time

as me (60's-70's) are still working. They didn't pay into Social Security.

I'm so happy I was disobedient, otherwise I would be working at

pushing carts at Wal-Mart. I think Satan was telling me not to listen

    to those fools..

Jam, I came into the organization in 1974.

I never believed the 1975 stuff, though.

    I'm so glad that I didn't.

I can see this becoming more and more the norm as those who followed the wts directives on education and are now in financial despair will sponge off the ones who made the effort to get an education/qualification instead of going back to the wts and saying 'help me please I did all you asked' and, while getting help from the educated ones (who they probably shunned) will continue to do all the borg tells them to do.

Sponging is a good word, Zeb.

I can't see how the elder will pay my nephew back.

    Pitiful.
