By saying things like magic are bad, do the WTS imply that it exists?

I am still indoctrinated when it comes to Satan and the demons. I don't believe God punishes or rewards people and I don't even believe he cares about anyone, so really as I have had no experiences with Satan or the Demons I should not believe they care about human affairs either.

But I do have a phobia still. Not one that overly governs my daily routines but just enough to stay away from anything that JWs would call supernatural to a degree. I bought my son the Harry Potter books, and we watched some of the films. But I am weary of some things. It gives me the hibbie gibbies, when I know it shouldn't.

Yes I know I am probably still indoctrinated.

I've written of my continuing fear of demons. Wow. I have come far. I can watch Alfred Hitchkok and the Twiliight Zone. It makes me angry to watch so-called mediums trick people out of money. Besides if I paid good money for some medium to summon my mom and all my mom reveals is the mundane, there is going to be one massive mother-daughter fight.

It is strange b/c I never fully believed in demons, even as a little kid. My aunt could tell good tales when she was in the mood. I think I heard once. My father would not let us see can-can saloon girls or hangings on TV. We had to cover our eyes while he turned the TV set off. It made it dramatic. Can anyone imagine a TV network in the 1950s showing an actual hanging of a human? The news shows ran warnings of dead bodies after 9/11. To this day, I still don't understand about the can-can girls.

There have been problems when I stay with friends who have Ouija boards at home. I wish they would not tell me. It is hard to refrain from asking them to place the board in the trash until I leave. Can you imagine the federal and state regulation where the Ouija boards are manufactured?

By saying things like magic are bad, do the WTS imply that it exists?

Of course when a organization propagates that spiritual evil demons exist and are now roaming around on earth they are quite

supportive of the possibility of magic being engaged in spiritualist practices.

One of "the anointed" in our cong. said we shouldn't watch David Copperfield because they only way he could make a plane disappear was with Satan's help!!! Thinking back, she must have believed it did actually vanish. Lol

Just thinking about the magic practising priests in eygpt. How different are they to modern day magicians? (Except for the fact that most people nowadays are smart enough to know that that sh*t is fake) People would only call it "occult" magic if the magician makes it a part of the act. A 5 year old who just got a magic kit for their not-a-birthday-but-we-don't-want-you-to-miss-out-day and Chris Angel or whoever it is could do the exact same trick but one would apparently be demonic and bad.

Side question, do jws believe people can are still being possessed today? If so, what would they do in that situation?

Wait Ameila Ashton there are female anointed ones now?

DuvanMuvan - "By saying things like magic are bad, do the WTS imply that it exists?"

Follow the chain of reasoning to it's logical end, and, yup.

The idea actually has its origins in the Middle Ages, wherein the Church declared than any manifestation of alleged supernatural phemonena that did not conform to their definition of "Biblical" (i.e., Church-approved) must therefore be, by default, of Satanic origin.

DuvanMuvan - "Side question, do jws believe people can/are still being possessed today?"

    Yeah, 'fraid so.

Some of the dumber ones still attribute that kind of thing to genuine mental illness (bipoler disorder, schizophrenia, etc.), in fact. Fortunately, most JWs with half a brain know better.

DuvanMuvan - "...there are female anointed ones now?"

There've always have been female partakers.

Whether or not they're genuinely anointed by God (AHE), hubristic, or have a few marbles rolling around in their head is a discussion for another thread.

Sure it is real... The believe wholeheartedly and fear it. Call it magic, withcraft, the occult, or demon possession, it is very real to a J W . This is just a typical quote.

    Wt 1963 3/15 p188

One troubled by demon attacks should also be aware of objects or articles that may have been given him about the time such attacks began. Practitioners of witchcraft sometimes cast spells on persons by having an object or article brought into the victim’s presence. This brings the victim into contact with the demons. In one case a garment was sent by a voodooist to a victim, and as long as the victim had that garment and wore it, it resulted in demon attacks and movements, especially at night. The removal of this garment resulted in relief. Hence, there may be some article or some individual who is in close contact with the oppressed person, one whom such a person would have to detect as being the channel through whom the demons are trying to take control of him, by reducing him to a state of exhaustion, nervously, mentally and physically.

When I was in, I shared that fear. Someone I knew that had experience of occult practices gave me a gift. I would not bring it into the house and got rid PDQ!!
