Hey everyone I'm new here. I'm not baptised but I've been qoute on qoute 'studying' for the past 4-5 years. I'm almost 20. I've been lurking and I've seen a lot of posts about elderettes. What benefits go along with being an elderette? What makes that "position" so special?

    Welcome!

Elderettes are a pejorative for the wives of elders, not an official term. Since women are not allowed to hold positions other than pioneering, being the wife of an elder can be a way to have some status in the congergation.

Thanks Londo. Oh okay I see. So do they get any special privlieges? Like some rulership?

    Nothing offical. So, technically no.

Oh okay. I just asked cause I've read more than a few stories about elders who wanted to step down but didn't because their wives loved being elderettes and I was just wondering why. thank you :)

    Welcome, MelloJello.

Elders wives have a great privilege - (many, not all!) namely, that they can get info from their husbands about others in the congregation - all the juicy stuff!

Elders ain't completely stupid, they know who they sleep beside at night

But the threat of of a cold shoulder can only go but so far

well, you rule over your husband, he hardly notices it though, and as an elderette [even you might be single] you are outstanding by your comments:

"--WE must all remember--" " it is very important that WE all----" you can ask the br at the control to give you more volume too. and then there are the visuals: looking down at others from below.

elderette: not to be confused with petite.

Hey Searcher. That makes a lot of sense. I was never involved in the congregation like that so I was never privy to anything going on. Before this site, I would think the families are perfect and well and so are the couples. Now....well I can only hope those kids and adults are okay.
