It is a logical year to make some sort of show of Kingdom "progress".

If DFing were to end, JWs as we know would cease to exist. Without shunning to keep people in line, JWs would become just another off shoot Christian sect, with no real controversy. And for that very fact, the WTS will never abolish the one tool they have to keep people enslaved - DFing/shunning

He may be referring to the changes reported here:
which include changing the understanding of the 144,000 to its not being a literal number. That's a major doctinal change.

The JW's I joined in 1988 were fairly stable. Coming off of the 1975 debacle and the removal of Ray Franz and cracking down on contact with those that leave the organization caused Watchtower to stop changing so much so fast.
But even looking back, there were always changes. They changed "this generation" and the sealing of 1935 and the donation process causing them to stop serving food at assemblies.
Watchtower is all about changes. Back in the day, doctrinal changes made members buy the newest books. There are always always always more changes coming.
The more things change, the more they stay the same.

Snare & Racket excellent point. The WT knows how to make money we saw that with their real Estate deals now it's going to be riding the stock market up for all they are worth. Funny how these guys don't seem to feel any urgency about Armageddon.

It was L3G who said this on the thread that he linked above
He mentioned something you did not, that RBCs are being disbanded. Do you or your source know anything about this?
I have an acquaintance who very well up in RBC and construction in UK ..he has said the same thing ....mind you, this is still a rumour untill we see it in print.
