Annomaly - Thanos for the link, it looks very sound and I'll review it.

Regarding Antiochus IV, It does make sense that these verses relate to Antiochus IV.

There are some factors that point to a dual fulfillment though.

    1. the chapter concludes with the "time of the end" (verse 40) - leading up to the resurrection of the saints.

    2. Daniel 10:14 - " I have come to make you understand what will befall your people in the final part of the days, because it is a vision yet for the days to come. Based on this we see that the following prophecies are all related to the Jews, not the Whole Earth.

Im FULLY aware that anyone can find ANYTHING they want in the scriptures to confirm their opinion : )

All but a few of the verses between 21-45 Can Apply directly to Hitlers Nazi Germany. I won't bore you with all of the research that that I have done so far, but 21 has a pretty good start. let me know if you're interestes in seeing any of the rest.. I really welcome points that disprove this possibility, so I don't spend too much time on it.

Daniel 11:21 - In his place shall arise a contemptible person to whom royal majesty has not been given . He shall come in without warning and obtain the kingdom by flatteries.

    • Royal Majesty has not been Given. - His Imperial and Royal Majesty William I (Hitler decided to enter a coalition government as chancellor in January 1933. Upon the death of Hindenburg in August 1934, Hitler was the consensus successor. With an improving economy, Hitler claimed credit and consolidated his position as a dictator, having succeeded in eliminating challenges from other political parties and government institutions.)
    • Come in without Warning - The party's rise to power was rapid. Before the economic depression struck, the Nazis were practically unknown, winning only 3 percent of the vote to the Reichstag (German parliament) in elections in 1924. In the 1932 elections, the Nazis won 33 percent of the votes, more than any other party. In January 1933 Hitler was appointed chancellor, the head of the German government, and many Germans believed that they had found a savior for their nation http://www.ushmm.org/outreach/en/article.php?ModuleId=100076
    • Obtain the Kingdom by Flatteries - "Hitler was a powerful and spellbinding speaker who attracted a wide following of Germans desperate for change. He promised the disenchanted a better life and a new and glorious Germany. The Nazis appealed especially to the unemployed, young people, and members of the lower middle class" http://www.ushmm.org/outreach/en/article.php?ModuleId=10007671 / Hitler decided to seize power constitutionally rather than by force of arms. Using demagogic oratory, Hitler spoke to scores of mass audiences, calling for the German people to resist the yoke of Jews and Communists, and to create a new empire which would rule the world for 1,000 years . (Demagogic Oratory Demagogic = a political agitator who appeals with crude oratory to the prejudice and passions of the mob Oratory is a type of public speaking.)
    • in 1932 and finally appointed Hitler Chancellor in January 1933. In February, he issued the Reichstag Fire Decree , which suspended various civil liberties , and in March he signed the Enabling Act , which gave Hitler's administration legislative powers. Hindenburg died the following year, after which Hitler declared the office of President vacant and, as " Führer und Reichskanzler", made himself head of state .

Daniel 11:19 - "He said, “Behold, I will make known to you what shall be at the latter end of the indignation, for it refers to the appointed time of the end."

    • The end of the Dignation refers to the end of the Gentile Times (As I understand it)

This King couod for sure be related to Hitler and the Holocaust

23 And at the latter end of their kingdom, when the transgressors have reached their limit, a king of bold face, one who understands riddles, shall arise. 24 His power shall be great—but not by his own power; and he shall cause fearful destruction and shall succeed in what he does, and destroy mighty men and the people who are the saints. 25 By his cunning he shall make deceit prosper under his hand, and in his own mind he shall become great. Without warning he shall destroy many. And he shall even rise up against the Prince of princes, and he shall be broken—but by no human hand. 26 The vision of the evenings and the mornings that has been told is true, but seal up the vision, for it refers to many days from now.”

    AnnOMaly:

Dan. 11:36 onward is understood to refer to the distant future.

    Only by irrational people.

Right up to verse 45 is in relation to Antiochus IV Epiphanes.

I have posted more detail about this in the past. Once I find it, I'll provide a link. But I fear it was on the defunct JW Support forum.

    objectivetruth:

rather I'm looking at these dates in comparison to 1948 & 1967

What is your basis for attempting to link any event during the Neo-Babylonian period with any event during the 20th century?

If you're basing it on the '2520 years' - a flawed inconsistent superstitious numerological contrivance - then it's a waste of time.

Jeffro, OK, so different commentators interpret differently and draw the past/future line at different places. It's a while since I looked into that part of Daniel and I presently have little patience with untangling all the various views. Each view will have its own rationale behind it.

Yes, a link to your discussion on it would be useful to anyone who wants to pursue this further. Hope you find it. :-)

AnnOMaly is correct. Daniel and Revelation are both apocalypses- that is their literary genre. They are open-ended to the future, pointing to an imagined time when persecution has ended and life is better. But that is the problem- how much further in the future did the writers mean?
