I was so peeved at the talk that I didn't listen to that letter at the end. I probably missed it, but it wasn't strewn throughout. During the passing of both the bread and the wine, the speaker remained silent.
It's "entirely possible" that I could meet this man in an Interstate rest-room, armed with a can of cheeze-wiz and a Twister game, but it's not likely..

Which video is "Andre" in?
The jw.org stuff whilst passing the emblems did not happen at our hall and sounds incredibly disrepectful.
At least our speaker kept the web marketing until the closing comments.
Our Eldub preached about Jw.borg as well, but he saved it till last. BU2B, was your speaker just going off-script and letting the huge crowd feed his ego??

No matter what privileges of service we may enjoy, we are still servants of God and of Christ.

what is really represented as being at the foot of the altar is the blood of faithful servants of Jesus who were slaughtered because of their bold and zealous witnessing

That this is the correct view is shown by Colossians 3:9, 10, where dedicated fellow servants of Jesus Christ are told to change their personality

What position do willing slaves, or servants, of Christ enjoy?
Interesting. Our speaker did not plug the web site during the talk as far as I heard. I also remember how we used to focus more on Jesus' sacrifice by reading the Gospel. Then we hear prayers thanking God for sending his Son to give his life, but of course Jesus himself is chopped liver and gets little thanks, especially since prayers cannot be directed to him. He is little more than the switchboard operator for our prayers; perhaps listening in, but never spoken to.
A couple thoughts of my own:
- It was mentioned that something like 19 million attended the Memorial last year. I was just looking around the Hall at all the visitors and thinking about this. JWs like to trumpet that number because it shows 'how many more potential Witnesses there are'. But it was clear to me that many of the attendees were there to placate family members. Calling them "interested ones" is way too generous.
- In trying to emphasize how few people are supposed to partake of the emblems, the speaker pointed out that only Jesus' faithful apostles were at his last supper, and none of his other disciples. He stated that this was because Jesus had chosen them to serve in lead positions in heaven. This is a non sequitur if you are using this selected group to illustrate the rarity of partakers, because JWs believe that the early Christians were all anointed. In any case, if Jesus only invited his most favored anointed ones, how much less is there any point to us earthly-hopers being present for the memorial talk?
They don't seem Christian to me. I wonder how scholars would classify them. New religious movement is one term. Do you call people Christians merely if they self identify as one? I know other religions don't believe in the Trinity. Wikipedia says the WT claims are unique.
