In honesty Kate having just read this thread, you said you were intimidated by Viviane when you were just a lurker on the site, yet you were a registered member long before she ever started posting, she is actually new here. Also her posts are very accurate and to the point, when I used to come here as a JW, that is what I was looking for personally, not anecdotal opinion or beliefs. Sometimes science and fact is seen as harsh, cold, miltaristic statements. But that is the bias of the reader, when the poster simply says 'you are wrong about that this is what is actually true' it is the reader who adds emotion, conflict, attack.... what was said word for word was simply correct. The watchtower wanted us to hug someone as we fed them the knowledge book, or live forever book. Love bombing does work. But we don't do that in real life, we shouldn't do it here. The information should stand by merit not how it was said. We don't hug people as we tell them they are incorrect on astro physics... we just say in honesty...hey, that isn't quite right! Do you know what I mean? There is no need to add fake love, a fake friendship.... we are discussing facts about astrophysics lol. Also it got very confrontational the moment someone asked questions... the confrontational tone was set by others as I read it.
Come on Village Girl....Viviane was correct from the start, the whole of modern physics including e=mc2 is founded in space and time being intertwined or as Einstein called it, the fabric of time and space.
I find Viviane's posts were succinct and to the point, others became personal, others introduced motives and unpleasant comments.
There seems to be a clash on this forum at the moment between the scientific and the non. The scientific, it is true, needs to respect that not everyone is educated on scientific method, but at the very least the non scientific need to accept that when they make extraordinary claims or claim to quote science...they will have people ask them questions about it. It is a forum!
Village girl was in fact incorrect and was simply quoting from physics forums, this kind of thing irks people with sincere interest beacause it poor practice as she knowsl and that is why sources are provided by scientists. Not only that her quote was proving her to be incorrect.
Can you imagine how frustrating it is to see that, someone poorly referencing a scientific quote that also makes evident what they are saying is wrong? Do we just say nothing? Do we just ignore it? It is a common occurence here, it is going on right now in the shark evolution thread too, with a poster quoting bing search results as evidence, not even reading the results which without realising it are answering his own complaint and doubts.
There will always be misunderstanding between scientific minds and those who explore the unknown without scientific restrictions, we should embrace each other, I agree. BUT the explorers must accept that we have a mountain of facts long discovered already.... so when exploring , if you contradict one of these OF COURSE we will mention it.
By the way, Frankie and Village Girl, most scientifically minded people wouldn't even glance at this kind of thing and would leave you to believe what you want. We are here, you have our attention, we are listening..... but don't get annoyed when we ask you questions! We are all onthe same side!
