THIS SETS THE STAGE FOR THEFT. Make no mistake about it -this will make everything worse for 'loyal' Witnesses.

Why? Consider: suppose your Kingdom Hall has increased in value. The CO can likely sell it off and send the cash to the Society because he has absolute control over the elders. He can appoint or delete anyone he wishes.

Further, it intensifies cronyism and simony - already bad thoughout Witness congregations. It also "derates" the elders in that they are mere servants of the CO. True, Circuit Overseers have been dictatorial frequently but this makes the situation worse.

It will also worsen the quality of elders because COs are going to be tempted to appoint anyone to fill slots, with little or no regard for qualifications. They may as well go back to "Company Servants" as in Rutherford's day, for all this backward move will accomplish.

I have known of congregations that fended off predatory COs by standing together as one. That may be possible now but this will make it more difficult.

Finally, if you have contempt for the Watchtower Society, take heart !! This will accelerate the dissolution of the Organization as the "sheep" are stripped of donations, Kingdom Halls and any remaining hope that things can be reformed.

    Rejoice!

When did the letters to the BOE come on a letterhead from "The Governing Body of Jehovah's Witnesses"?

What happened to "The Christian Congregation ..."? Is that no more?

So the BOE letters have made a shift towards unofficiality? No corporate/legal letterhead any more, just the religious non-term?

If so, then next time a BOE letter tells to break a law, the corporation has nothing to do with it.

    I just dont understand it.

The co would only consider appointing or deleting someone based on the recomendations of the body of elders anyway?

Then the branch would be asked, just to make sure that they dont have a file with "confidential past sins / records" of that bro on file...

SO, in theory, this means that it would be possible for any brown-noser to be appointed if he moves somewhere and sucks up to the new BOE and CO, and the "safety" shield of the bethel branch cant do anything about it??

    I dont get it.....

This is too much power for a CO, now if the CO holds a grudge against a brother, nothing can be done. There's no DO to complain to, and I bet if the branch was contacted they wouldn't get involved. Power tripping CO's will be drooling when they read this letter.

    Let the ass-kissing begin!

Thanks WatchTower87 for sharing this with us!

Not really that big of a deal IMO, as far as the process of appointments and deletions are concerned. CO's have been able to always fire off a letter consigning a recommendation, or declining a signature of approval to the GB for whatever reason. Same with getting the ball rolling on a deletion, although a strong elder body can make things difficult enough where it might not be worth the headache to a mini-Eichman. Still, basically, their word was already law, and if you've ever sat in a CO meeting where prior to the body unanimously recommended a brother, only for the CO to visit and sway the opinions of enough brothers to have a change of heart, you'll know what I mean. I'll never forget watching how spineless some men were when the CO made his case. Before he came, our decision was unanimous regarding a MS. It made me realize that the meeting we have prior to CO visits, is a waste of time. At least it is from the standpoint of discussing recommendations before his arrival. Apparently, other brothers felt the same way, as the last couple times we met before the CO came, we didn't even bother wasting time on debating and discussing whether someone was worth making the case for.

Do have to say, the financial changes letter, which I haven't read yet, do become rather intriguing in light of the CO's new or maybe I should say, clarified, position of oversight over local elder bodies.

This isn't real. A policy change that big would have a letter longer than that.

Hmm. ATJ, do you think we just got "punked"? it's been seperately confirmed as a genuine BOE letter by others.

    The letter is too short.

believe me, if I'm wrong, not only will I not care, I will really really not care. But this seems fishy....
