It would not matter what the change was...even if it was backwards or opposite, everone will still say:
"its such a loving / forward moving / progressive / blah blah...idea..."

Well put and precisely the reason that this change matters little at the moment but in the long run we will see. It will also, as mentioned, allow absolute idiots who have money and a taste for some good polyester flavored ass to be appointed now. This is a stupid move that could bite them in the ass.
