The Watchtower arranged to have a letter read announcing that Elders would now be apponted by circuit overseers.

Any elders on this forum know how this will be different from the current arrangement for appointing elders.

It would be nice to see a schematic with boxes showing how it used to be and how it will be in the future.

This just adds another layer of insulation between the WT leadership and any potential liability caused by legal screw-ups on the part of the local elders.

I'm sure Holy Spirit inspired this change as a result of the many lawsuits brought against the WTBTS. One just wonders why HS didn't see it coming and make these changes pre-emptively.

Currently the whole BOE had to be unanimous to suggest a Elder/MS recommendation to the CO during his visit. They. CO and BOE would meet and discuss and if they were in agreement they sent the recommendation to the Branch office Service Committee. The Branch office received that request and opened that drawer where that stamp is stored. The mail clerk stamped the page, and sent the stamped, APPROVED, copy back to the congregation.

Now, if there is someone on the BOE that doesn't like someone, he can't forever hold anyone back. It's now a One Pony show. You only need to convince one guy.

The WTBTS/GB are preparing themselfs for when they come under ban. Well thats what I overheard hear some JWs say after that letter was read.

I don't see how the change would insulate the organization from liability any more than under the previous arrangement.

Sounds to me like the GB taking more control by giving COs more authority and local elders less.

In the past, the Branch approved all appointments. Now they have plausible deniability. They will have no direct involvement therefore no liability.

The actions of the Holy Spirit seem suspiciously like those of a cagey lawyer.
