Agree with Oub...just another way to cover their ass... in 15 years we will be reading about some 70 year old CO being held liable for a molester he approved. Dude will be bankrupted while the WTS laughs in the background.

he might not be bancrupt at all, perhaps his assets inhis wife's or a numbert companies name. because with a fiefdom created like that, how do you avoid acquiring truly UNRIGHTIOUS riches? form right hand to left hand-shake.

I would be interested in hearing from BOTR on this. I don't think this relieves them of organizational responibilty in a court of law. They might not appoint the guy, but they are still responsible for what he does on the job. I've seen big corporations sued for something done by a manager in the field when nobody at corporate even knew the individual.

The Governing Body has already DELEGATED the appointing of elders and MS As seen by this quote from 2001 Watchtower:

16 Paul told his coworker Titus: “For this reason I left you in Crete, that you might correct the things that were defective and might make appointments of older men in city after city, as I gave you orders.” ( Titus 1:5 ) Paul then outlined the qualifications that Titus was to look for in men who would qualify for such appointments. Today, therefore, the Governing Body appoints qualified brothers at the branches to represent it in making appointments of elders and ministerial servants. Care is taken that those acting representatively on behalf of the Governing Body clearly understand and follow the Scriptural guidelines for making such appointments. Hence, it is under the direction of the Governing Body that qualified men are appointed to serve in the congregations of Jehovah’s Witnesses worldwide.

The only real change is that instead of "appointing qualified brothers AT THE BRANCHES..." They now are appointing CO's as the qualified brothers.

SyntaxError1974: The only real change is that instead of "appointing qualified brothers AT THE BRANCHES..." They now are appointing CO's as the qualified brothers.

And that IS a real change because their will be MORE DISTANCE and LESS DIRECT CONTROL between the GB and the local elders.

Skin sez: The WTBTS/GB are preparing themselfs for when they come under ban. Well thats what I overheard hear some JWs say after that letter was read.

The world keeps turning without any notice whatsoever of the jws, yet they believe they are the center of the universe. Yes, that's right, SOON™ all religions will be wiped out and then Satan™ will turn his attention to jws. Keep drinking that koolaid.

Oubliette - "In the past, the Branch approved all appointments. Now they have plausible deniability. They will have no direct involvement therefore no liability."

Yet god help any elder who bucks the Branch's directives...

...the older I get, the more I dislike people who insist on having their cake and eating it, too.

I would think that if this is intended to be used as a shield for liability that it would only cover, if at all, the elders MS that have been appointed SINCE the change in procedure. So the ones that were appointed by the FDS pre Sept1 2014 would still be on the hook for any issues.

Or possibly do you think that after Sept 1 2014 and also after a CO visit, if one of the appointed men did something awry the WTBTS couls hang the blame on the CO for not removing the person, since it falls into his hand at that point in time.,
