Katie,
"my thought: the females are too afraid of what their social group will think".
I suppose that could be true. I dont think its the case with most though. Many stay out of fear or family obligations etc. You mentioned your mother stays because of her worry of others opinion of her. People do always seem to worry about "what would so and so think"? It seems so shallow doesnt it?

Nah, not a girl thingy. I can be a bit nieve(sp)at times, and I love being nice to people but, From the moment I saw the truth about the troof. I was out of there. Had I been married at the time I still would have left. When I know I'm doing the right thing nothing can stop me from doing it. Not even a man.

I don't want someone in my life I can live with. I want someone in my life I can't live without.

I just know I'm going to insult a lot of poeople but here goes ...
Women are more emotional and probably value the 'social' aspect of it more. They may have more friends / family within it and be more cencerned with what people will think. To leave it all may be more difficult because of this.
Men *may* be more likely to be at work and don't really get involved as much as women do day-to-day even though the WT would have you believe that the men do everything (they just take the credit).
Also, if the woman want's to leave then perhaps the guy often just goes along with it for a quiet life?
Or, perhaps us guys take the bull-in-a-china-shop approach and do things the hard way whereas women use their heads and get people out without as much fuss.

My wife stayed for a year after me. It was out of guilt. She responded more to the guilt trip laid on her.
