Did the GB ever receive new light without the passage of time forcing it upon them?

For me, one of the strongest bits of evidence that the whole "new light" concept was fatally flawed was in regard to whether or not the residents of Sodom would receive a resurrection.

Last time I checked there's not a huge contingency of long lost relatives of those who were destroyed in Sodom who are banging on the Governing Body's doors begging that they get a resurrection. It's one of those theological questions that's fairly academic and most people probably won't get too worked up about it either way.

But the Watchtower has flip-flopped on this question TEN(count 'em) TEN times. There was no time pressure on the WT to make these flip-flops. It was just stupid.

Some of their new light flashes are conveniently tied to people's hopes and dreams. I fully believe the intent is to keep loyal JWs in the cult by providing false hope in the "new system".

The examples I'm referring to include the hope that miscarried babies will be resurrected, and the new opportunity to be reunited with your dead spouse in the new order.

Sick pricks will tell any lie to keep people in their cult.

Another example would be the 'noo lite' that they didn't really have the guff on marriage for the resurrected and the old light was just speculating, which we shouldn't do, even though they did that in the past, but it wasn't speculating because it was The Truth and they were guided by Holy spirit, and the Faithful & Discreet Slave aren't doing that now, even though they are/aren't/were/weren't//was/wasn't/is/isn't .......

    Confused????

    Just believe ........

Great point, Black Sheep. Speculation is not recommended (notice the date on this quote)..

    Wt 6/15 1962 p.380-383
"Likewise it is possible to spend valuable time speculating on matters concerning the future. One might ask, In what year will Armageddon begin?...Jehovah has not provided answers at this time. Do you think it wise for Christians to take time from more profitable Bible study to speculate on the answers? Consider the dangers...involves more than saving time. It may save your life...Personal theories can cause division of thought..By setting up hypothetical situations and then speculating..are we not in fact adding to Jehovahs words?..We cannot worship Jehovah in spirit and in truth if our worship is based on speculation. Truth and theory are not synonymous. "

Wow! Defender of truth...great quote you have produced there!

So in 1962 they themselves said not to look to a date....but the organizatin later did just that in the years prior to 75!?

    amazing...

Incidentally, I was at lunch with a bunch a few months back, and an elder somehow spoke of witnesses who ran ahead of the org with 1975...

I simply calmly said "well the org did actually encourage such thinking"

He almost flew off the handle, started frothing at the mouth, raised his voce and said "that did not happen! You have it wrong! Why are you saying these things?"

I just calmly said..."well, no, the facts speak for themselves...." And went on eating and chatting with others about different topics....

i like what openmind said about the ressurrection on the sodomites. in fact, many years ago when i was a MS i had bible highlights. brought this out from insight book- i think it was the insight- that they would possibly have a resurrection. elder tells me when i get down that i had to make a public retraction because they had changed that info. so next week i happened to do announcements. i went ahead and humbly made the retraction.. .i get down from stage, PO pulls me into back room and very firmly tells me that i will never ever make an announcement again w/o his approval! so basically i got played the fool, when it was THEM who was the fool!

    To answer the original question:

Yes, in 1958 with the superior authorities doctrine and in 1964 with resurrection doctrine. Some of the 1964 changes (which seemed rational to me) were rolled back in the last few years.

    Another would be tobacco use.

The problem with watchtower doctrinal development is that discussion and questions are discouraged to the point of intimidation.

Freddy's initial hedge on 1975 was that we don't know the time gap between Adam's creation and Eve's, so we don't really know when the 6th creative "day" actually ended.

As far as I know, the organization has never come up with "new light" regarding that explanation for why Armageddon didn't come in 1975.

JWs dutifully forgot the whole thing.

We're now at a 39 year gap and counting.

Maybe we should do something next year to commemorate the gap turning 40...

Old Goat. Would you care to elaborate On what you believe the "nu-light" concerning the Superior Authorities was?? As far as I know, the GB has did not release anything new about the SA. They simply flip-flopped and accepted the long held view of Christendom that CTR regurgitated.
