I see this major move by the GB to grab all that is considered congregation extra cash as shooting themselves in the foot. I suspect that contribution will be dropping because of this. This is going to leave a very bad taste in a lot of elders and COs mouths. I see it as a bold move that will give them some extra cash to play with but it will not last very long and then the Kingdom halls will start having for sales signs all over the place as the R&F start voting with their feet and pocket books over this blatant robbery by the Faithful and Discreet Shyster.

They decided to send $300 or so a month to the BORG, although last month they claim they only collected $600 with expenses of $700. They have $8000 in the bank. I wonder if that will be sent to the BORG also.
.
According to the addendum BOE letter of 5-12-13, congregations are only to retain enough funds to cover "two to three months" worth of expenses.
If your cong. has $8000 in its account, and monthly expenses are $700, then, if your elders follow the WT's demands, they'll be sending $5900 of your money to WT.
It's "for Jehovah", though, so don't worry about it. If your cong. gets into a bind, god will write you a check and cover it.

Everything in the universe belongs to Jehovah so his reps have every right to demand it all be turned in. If he leaves you the merciful discretion to keep enough for your living expenses you should be grateful, you murmurers.
If his reps seem more like organized crime lords running a cult full of gullible dummies, you need to pray for a better attitude.

It was being an elder for over 11 years that woke me up..... if the 'publishers' only knew what was going on behind closed doors. ....however, the fact that they don't know what is going on is also THEIR fault, as it was mine......

I have a feeling that a congregation that has $8000 in the bank and doesn't always meet it's monthly expenses without dipping into savings will find a way to keep that $8000 and send their $300 per month from that for a year, then they might send less money as they reevaluate.
3 months on hand and I read somewhere they could keep $5000 on hand for other things.
Still, WTS gets $300 per month for mailing a copy of a letter. Easy money.

I hope you were being sarcastic 'iown mylife'?

I understood that if they were paying on a mortgage currently that their monthly payment would be forgiven but the society expected them to pay at a minimum that sum....can they pay under that?

Hi stuckinarut2, sure i was totally being sarcastic - i was remembering hearing that B.S. about how we should want to give 100% of everything we could ever possess to the WT society, who represents the Creator of the Universe. It occurred to me that some jw's i used to know would say that in response to criticism of the cash grab going on now.

Just like back in the late 1980s when they went to offering the mags free and were used to solicit a donation in order not to pay taxes on the sale, so too this new arrangement of pledges will back fire on them. They are desperate and are makeing very stupid moves that are going to cost them big time in the near future.
