The sign of the time of the end (of God's favour to Israel) was the abomination that caused desolation (Roman armies) of the holy city. In the gospels the word holy applied in a limited fashion, actually exclusively to the Father, the Son and the Spirit and the city and temple because of God's presence. The temple and city lost the designation when Israel rejected the Messiah. The fact that their house was left to them desolate was symbolized/declared by the veil of the temple being rent top downwards when Christ was crucified....and finally for the entire world to see, by the temples' destruction in 70 AD.
There are no signs in Matthew 24 for the end of the world. It will come as a snare on the whole earth at a time impossible of anticipation; people will be carrying on as normal, marrying, working in the fields etc. So be ready at all times.
