Hey Lois, maybe you saw me there, in Pasadena! an 8 day assembly? (or was it 9?) I was about 8 years old, and remember the concrete benches we sat on from 9 am to 9 pm.. also, we had garbage bags with holes in the top so that we c/slip them over our heads like a raincoat, whiles we held umbrellas over our heads... It was also hot there at times.
I also remember the loooooong drive down there from the bay area, no super freeways then, and we went with another sister and her 2 girls. My mom (her two girls) and the others made 6 in our pink Impala sation wagon... good thing we could lay down in the back in those days! We stayed with a fam down there.... I can't remember if it was this assembly or another LA ordeal, but at one of them I got a terrible, terrible bloody nose (from the heat?) and another one I broke out in a rash from the heat, barely got my mom to agree to take me back to the house we stayed in, but had to lay in the hallway because our car was blocked by other friendly 'parkers' and I had to take a cold cold shower to get rid of the bumps... such sacrifices for what? What do you remember from those conventions? blah, blah, blah....
The only thing I loved about those assemblies, the only thing that made them tolerable, the only thing that kept me alive, were the noon time dishes of ice cream topped with nectarines! Yum!
