Hey Cha-Ching, Maybe I did see you! lol

Sunday, I remember the last day, Sunday.

We had 7 extra people staying in our house. Three came a week before so we could do the usual. Visit Disneyland, go to the beach, go shopping, Hollywood etc. There were 5 of us.

There were 4 brothers who were night guards, so they slept and enjoyed our house during the day.

The 3 were my mom's old girlfriend from the mid west and her husband and son. They were big time farmers. Their oldest was a missionary, somewhere.

I don't remember the wife's name. The husband yes. His name was Jim H. The reason he married his wife is (as the story goes told to me by my mom) was because she was pregnant. She was sleeping with 3 different guys, so when she found out she was pregger's , she went to each one, and the first one that said he would marry her, got her and the soon baby. Anyway, they were staying in the house too. We had 3 bathrooms, so it wasn't too bad sharing.

My Dad had an official job assignment at the convention, that he needed to be early for, so cars were going out at different times, and coming back at different times. I really did not eat much or sleep much or drink much water, during those 8 days.

I started feeling ill at the convention on that last Sunday. I was with my friends RF who is now an Elder in Florida and my friend LP who left the JW's decades ago. They helped me to a cool spot out of the stadium, under a tree. I sat on the concrete curb. RF got me some wet paper towels for my face, neck and head and a drink of water from somewhere. The rest of the day was a blur until the end when it was all over. Then there was a brother on a flat bed truck trying to sell the left over potted plants that were used for the stage decorations. He said, "Step right up here and get your petunias. Only $???. Step up and buy this plant. This plant was right next to Bro Knorr as he was giving his talk". The guy had a funny sense of humor trying to get rid of those plants. lol

I will not be going this summer or any other summer. My days sitting in the hot sun, listening to men droning on and on about invisible beings doing magical things for JW's, is over.

I don't remember any food at that convention.

My Dad had a cooler full of ice with chilled drink cans for those who were assigned to help him. I was too young to help and I don't really like to drink pop.

School started in a week. It is funny in LA back then, Since all the national newspapers would be advertising the latest back to school fashions, kids in LA would have their mom's buy them new clothes too. Clothes to wear in most other States in Sept like wool pleated skirts, would be worn that first day of school, then discarded until Dec and Jan. Sept. is way too hot in LA. It is not the weather for 100% wool pleated skirts. lol

Lois, I think facilities in undesirable parts of a city can be rented for a lot less money than more desirable venues. They may be out to "witness" to the poor, uneducated, vulnerable people who live there. I think it most likely that the grimy pounds and pence are their chief motivation for anything they do.

1963 was my first assembly, and my first trip to New York City. I was a 16-year-old hillbilly girl who had never been anywhere. I was so excited. I actually had a 6-year-old boy hang around me as if he had a crush. There was also another boy who sat with me and was very sweet - and good-looking. Those were the days. But, of course, as time went on, things changed - a LOT!

Has anyone mentioned the lack of nearby eateries?

I live within ten minutes from Husky Stadium by hoverboard.

The proper name of the stadium is "Alaska Airlines Arena at The University of Washington." But everyone calls it Husky Stadium becuase that's where the University of Washington (u Dub) Huskies football team plays.

As has been already mentioned, the immediately adjacent "properties" are Lake Washington

(with a temperature of 50° or less, it is ideal for baptisms. High-beams, anyone? ),

the Lake Washington Ship Canal and University property. If you walk north a good 1/4 mile, you have the "University Village" shopping center with some restaurants and fast food places in and around U Village. There are a couple of local burger joints - Burgermaster and Kidd Valley and a McDonald's, various Pizza places, a GREAT ( and expensive, cheapskates) local steakhouse - Jak's Grill. There are other restarants, but I can't vouch for them.

The closest motel is "Silver Cloud Inn - University District". It is at the north side of U Village, so it might be one kilometer (0.6 mile) from the Stadium. I have absolutely no idea about the availability or the quality of the rooms. I would bet money they do NOT have room service.

About a quarter-mile south of the Stadium on the other side of the canal is a mostly residential area with no fast or slow food for about another mile or so.

I think the WTB&TS saw the relative isolation of the Stadium as a MAJOR appeal. "Keep the audience captive."

Nathan Natas ... Would you encourage anyone to eat at Ivar's? I have eaten there and sometimes it is fantastic. The last time, not so good.

    Has it been okay lately?

    @ Nathan:

    You have a hoverboard? Awesome!

I think the WTB&TS saw the relative isolation of the Stadium as a MAJOR appeal

Exactly. It wouldn't matter if the area was saturated with restaurants...JWs will be eating bologne and about-to-go-bad potato salad out of their picinic cooler. Jehovahâ„¢ considers it a grave sin to go out and eat during assemblies. The rest of the year he's more tolerant.

Looking forward to the cool temps. and the baptism (.)(.)

LoisLane - Generally I like Ivar's. I'm near Ivars Indian Salmon House and have dined inside and got take-away from the outdoor fish 'n chips bar. I've never had a problem with either. Is there one location that you've found problematic? ...was it food quality, service or ambience? Not all store managers are always at the top of their game.

Shirley - I didn't say I "HAD" a hoverboard, I just expressed distance in terms of hoverboard-ability. No, I'm joking - of COURSE I have a hoverboard! It was a gift when I joined The Liars' Club! Yeah, THAT'S the ticket!

I think the Dubs attending will find the stadium overrun with rabid beavers. But there's no threat from the primarily nocturnal, large, semi-aquatic rodents living in the marshy shores of Lake Washington.

i thought the "beavers" were your neighbours to the north?

Awesome...high beams and beaver ! Sounds like the Seattle convention is the place to be in 2014....

    .

Nathan: It was a gift when I joined The Liars' Club!

    .

in that case, say 'hi' to the GB for me...especially Tony Mo 3. I love his "Human Hot Dog" story...it never gets old.

Well I'm sure the local JW's will be visiting their favorite bars after the convention each

day. There's quite a group in the immediate area that are the "cool kids" JW's who are

always going out for drinks after the weekly meeting. Heavy drinkers up here, I see

pics of them posted all the time and everyone usually has a drink in hand! But since the

in the elite group I'm sure they never get in trouble for too much imbibing.
