Vidiot:
I wonder what happens when this Law of Unintended Consequences gets out of hand. Can you imagine what the congregations must be like today and where they are headed??
If we were there, we would be targeted left and right for everything - you name it. Even the elders would be pestering anybody who they perceive as "responsible"... Any thinking person there should get the hell out of Dodge! I am sure glad I did.
Doesn't look good.
This thread's essence is not just some apostate complaint - there are many in the organization who have observed this problem and despair about it.
So, they have 8 million-ish Witlesses world-wide ........ now what?
Perhaps the changes we are suddenly seeing represent the WT's answer to that question.

The vast majority.....like 99%..... of Jehovah's Witnesses do not study, read or think.
It could be taken as an insult, but this religion retains the truly stupid among us. They love being dumb.
"Just tell me what to do"
It will ALWAYS be my biggest shock: asking a JW anything remotely deep or historical or Biblical.......and the look of "duh, don't know, never have" on their face.

Once again for the people in the back...
...one or two million hard-core idiots are a lot easier to manage than six or seven million fence-sitters with half a brain.
Oh how I hope you're right Vidiot. It would sure make exiting easier if it was a part of a mass exodus of a few million. I fear that it'll take 20-30 years for it to happen, if it ever does, though.
LHG: "...they ended up attracting seriously dysfunctional people."
They also made a lot of us JW kids seriously dysfunctional--Weird Single Bethelites like me. Which caused a lot of dysfunctional families. I heard of many congregations where the brothers had to cobble together some pioneer couple with a single sister's kids in order to make a fake family for a Serve-us Meeting part. Either there were no exemplary families, or just one family that happened to be on vacation that week.
Perhaps that's why they're putting so much pressure on the family worship night crap. Sure, preaching is still important, but having a few more "normal" families is better. And perhaps that's part of the thing with litteratrash carts. They may be hoping to get some sociable people that can read, rather than going out and rounding up the anti-social hoarders like they've already got.

As far as I'm concerned, we are the exodus.
LongHairGal - "If we were there, we would be targeted left and right for everything - you name it. Even the elders would be pestering anybody who they perceive as 'responsible'..."
I hadn't thought of that, but yeah.
Despite the fact that I played fair and followed the rules...
...the kind of person I am, if I hadn't faded, sooner or later the hounds probably would have come sniffing.
Vidiot:
By being "targeted" what I mean is you would be asked for money, favors and everything else under the sun!
And this would be not just by the dysfunctional people in the cong. but the elders also would see you as the go-to person when they are in a jam or want something.
I saw this ages ago. The few responsible people still there can ignore this if they like, but I'm not wrong.
This is the proverbial handwriting that is on the wall !!!
