    Hi Leander,
This isn't much but I hope it helps.

    Deuteronomy 18:20-22

"20. But a prophet who presumes to speak in my name anything I have not commanded him to say, or a prophet who speaks in the name of other gods, must be put to death (LOL) 21. You may say to yourselves,(The question:)'How can we know when a message has not been spoken by the LORD?' 22. (The answer:) If what a prophet proclaims in the name of the LORD does NOT take place or come true, that is a message that the LORD has NOT spoken. That prophet has spoken presumptiously. Do not be afraid of him."

Bear that scripture in mind while reading these excerpts from their literature:::

People today can view the creative works. They have at hand the Bible, but it is little read or understood. So, does Jehovah have a prophet to help them, to warn them of dangers and to declare things to come?

    IDENTIFYING THE "PROPHET"

These questions can be answered in the affirmative. Who is this prophet? ... This "prophet" was not one man, but was a body of men and women. It was the small group of footstep followers of Jesus Christ, known at that time as International Bible Students. Today they are known as Jehovah's Christian witnesses. ... Of course, it is easy to say that this group acts as a "prophet" of God. It is another thing to prove it. The only way that this can be done is to review the record. (...yeah, they proved it alright...LOL)

True, it is expecting great things to claim, as we do, that within the coming twenty-six years all present governments will be overthrown and dissolved ... In view of this strong bible evidence concerning the Times of the Gentiles, we consider it AN ESTABLISHED TRUTH that the final end of the kingdoms of this world, and the full establishment of the Kingdom of God, will be accomplished at the end of A.D. 1914..." --Watchtower 1972 April 1 p.197 'They Shall Know that a Prophet Was Among Them'

...Nah, the JWs never claimed to Prophets. What on earth would make you think that?...

We see no reason for changing the figures-nor could we change them if we would. They are, we believe, God's dates, not ours. But bear in mind that the end of 1914 is not the date for the beginning, but for the end of the time of trouble." - Zion's Watch Tower, July 15, 1894, p. 266

"1925 shall mark the resurrection of the faithful worthies of old....based upon the promises set forth in the divine Word, we must reach the positive and indisputable conclusion that millions now living will never die." - Millions Now Living Will Never Die, 1920, p. 97
    ...emphasis mine

AChristian's post is excellent. It was one of the primary convincing arguments that helped me see a lot of things (he posted it to me when I first started coming here). It is also good because he uses a good bit of scripture to back his statements.

    Best of luck to you!!

Sorry if thewe have already been mentioned but I am in a big hurry.

    1. counting time

    2. disfellowshipping
They missapply scriptures that were written for each person to make their personal decision on who they associate with. A publc spiritual execution is not what those scriptures meant.

    Leander:

If you haven't already, check out http://quotes.jehovahswitnesses.com/

My favorite quotes on the site include "Religion: verify" and "Religion: do not verify".

As you may recall, the BIBLE says "Make sure of all things" and to put Jesus' teachings "to the test", and praises the Beoreans for "examining these things", however the Watchtower - especially in more recent years - has ignored the individual Christian's responsibility to critically examine what they are being taught, instead threatening any who do so with being silenced by disfellowshipping and being labelled as an "apostate". At the same time, they hail themselves as the only source of Truth™ and God's Spirit Directed Organization™ and the Faithful and Discreet Slave™, and expect JWs to just believe them without question.

    Leander,

    Still thinking 'boutcha.
    Hang in there eh.
    Expect a ride on this.

    All the best
    prepping your "arguments".

    No matter what you
    tell the dubs that
    lub ya
    they are not likely
    to agree.

    Keep in mind
    that you have been
    contemplating this
    for some time now...

    The people in your life
    however
    have just been
    "blindsided".

    Expect them to
    react
    something like
    a deer in the
    headlights.

    Your points above
    seem excellent.

If you wish to use scriptures
    to make your stand,
definitely look them up in advance
    rather than saying
"i'm not sure where it is"
    that just sounds wishywashy and
    unsure.

The ones that ultimately come to my
mind have to do with the scriptural
    legalities of
making your own choice in the
    matter.

    The biblical God
    gives options and
    consequences.

    May sound morbid
    to them...
    (something like
    the whole euthanasia
    debate)
but the way i see it,
    if "God" allows
    me the option
    to make my own choice,
    why won't people?
    (his so-called servants)

    Ultimately
    they should
    respect your
    scriptural
    Right
    to make your own
    spiritual
    decision(s)
    for your own
    reasons
    whether they
    understand them
    or agree
    or not.
    And just as you
    will respect
    their right
    to live as they
choose. (if that's how you feel)

    Even if they
    get angry and choose
    to hate you
    just use "Jehovah's"
    behavior
    against them.
    How did "Jehovah"
    treat his "enemy"?
    Still allowed
    "Satan" to say his
    thing. (read Job)
    Eventually
    put him outta
    heaven,
    but...
    the biblical God
    still 'makes the sun shine
    and the rain rain
    on both wicked and good'
    right?

    Do jdubs follow
    this example?

    I think not.

    If it's your
    free will
    to exercise,
    then why don't
    they respect that?

    This reasoning
    can be used
    to refute their
    insistance
    to meet and
    challenge
    your decision.

    By submitting
    your letter,
    you have already
    fulfilled any and all
    obligations around your
    membership
    to their legal organization.

    The rest is between
you and the "reader of hearts"
    (to use their bible).

    My comments are not
    aimed to be specific
    anti-jdub propaganda
    but more to give you
    confidence to
    stand up for your
    right to decide
    & hopefully some comments
    that can help
    "field" some
    emotional
    & pre-conditioned
    reactions.

    Please take my
    comments with the
    knowledge about me
    that i am still
    fairly messed up
    spiritually speaking
    after leaving
    and trying to
    "deprogram"
    myself,
    but this is how
    i see it
    where i am
    right now.

Read Ray Franz's Second Book, In Search of Christian Freedom. Blood, the misuse of Disfellowshipping, The Good News and much more is examined. Wow, what a book! I DA'ed after reading it.......

How about WHERE the Great Crowd is located? The JW's teach that the 2nd class of Christians, the Great Crowd, will be here on earth. However, if you read in Revelation, the two places where it mentions the Great Crowd they are located BEFORE THE THRONE OF GOD - which of course, is in heaven right?!

Thanks for all of the good information, over the next few days I plan on putting together a comprehensive notebook containing everything that was mentioned here. This information really helps to reinforce for me just how wrong the WTS really is and at this point in my life I can use all the reinforcements that I can get my hands on.

    thanks again everyone

    Hi Leander,
Me again. It might help you to check out some of these threads that I started. When I first came here, I asked lots of questions like the ones you are asking and got many helpful responses.

I really hope everything works out well for ya. Have you read any of the Franz books? I haven't, but many here say those books were the breaking point for them. You may find them helpful. Good luck!!

I am proud of you Lee.

It will be a long, teacherous, painful road.

The WTS hierarchy and the local elders will not let you exit gracefully or in peace. The fact that your wife remains a loyal JW will no doubt complicate matters for you.

This is a monumental time of transition for you, and what occurs over the next few weeks or months will directly effect you on a grand scale.

You do have friends here on this discussion board, and subsequently by posting here you encounter many people from all creeds and countries who are undergoing the same issues you and I face right now.

As I said before, should you need me, I am a phone call away. I actually look forward to bringing some of the old WT bound volumes over and showing you the abundant number of contradictions found within WTBTS literature.

Tread carefully and choose wisely what you say or reveal to the "inquisitors". The "elders" may visit under the pretense of concern for your "spiritual well-being", but are actually trying to determine the reason for your exit.

Answering their questions honestly may provide a legitimate violation of WT law according to their "rules" with which to DF you to "cleanse" the congregation and provide a reason to the other rank&file as to why someone would voluntarily leave the organization.

My heart is with you my friend.

This reminds me of the film "The Matrix"...

You have been unplugged from the Collective.
    Welcome to the real world.

    Stoc,

You asked: Has anyone ever told you you look like Doc from the Love Boat?

No, I've heard "Michael Caine" though.
