    Do you believe it exists?

When you get "a hunch", do you ignore or listen to it??

Which part of your brain instructs you to yank your hand off a hot stove? Is this a sixth sense or simply a different kind of sensory processing?

I am pretty in tune with my inarticulate self. I pay attention to my intuition.

Intuition is very much like prayer, you only remember the times when it appears to work.

If anyone tells you they dont believe in a "6th sense" (which is just a term really) ask them if they have ever sat in a restaurant and suddenly looked across the crowded room directly at a person who was sitting there staring at them who hastily turned away?

    What was that exactly?

How did they know to look precisely at the person who was staring at them and not one of the many other people in that crowded environment?

This phenomenon is common enough that most people have experienced something similar.

    ??

    Five senses:

    Sight

    Hearing

    Taste

    Touch

    Smell

Perhaps not the best illustration of whatever your point was?

Sixth-sense, to me, is simply thought, especially subconscious reasoning.

I listen. You can call that sensation what you will, sixth sense, ESP, animal instinct, ect. Its there. Some of us are more in time with it than others. Have you ever known you were being watched. Have you ever spent time around wild life? They KNOW many times when something is off, even when hunters disguise themselves and hide their scent.

The more you tust your intuition, the more you hear it, IMO. I think it's your subconscious at work. I have read that your subconscious mind is always right.

    Oh....your question...

when I listen to it Im glad/ when I dont I wish I had!

I am so glad you all pretty much acknowledge that.

I almost always know when stuff is going to go wrong. Or I'm going to be let down etc etc......

The Times I've not listened to my 6th sense, I've kicked myself.

quellycatface, so why are in-tune, listening-to-sixth-sense people relatively unsuccessful at activities requiring precise decision-making, say:

    mathematics

    stock-picking

    chess

by comparison to people like You-Know-who? After all, they're apparently equipped with more useful senses than plebs...

Promise, I'm not being argumentative. But I can't help suggesting that your belief in your 6th sense is more to do with you remembering and clinging on to the times when it was right, and discarding or forgetting the times when it was not.

Beliefs are self-reinforcing. Evolution has programmed us this way, and with good reason.

I'm not saying intuition doesn't exist - it most certainly does. It is just subconscious rational thinking.

But I contest the existence of anything beyond that. It's just wishful thinking...

The ESP saga, to wit... it is all down to sources.
