I wonder if anyone who was disfellowshipped for being homosexual would consider some kind of payback to the elders that made their life miserable, by requesting getting married in their old kingdom hall.

The Witnesses LOVE being persecuted! If they are not being persecuted, they will create their own persecution. It feeds into their paranoia and reinforces their belief that they are the chosen one. - Wild Thing
Yes, true indeed....they love to be "persecuted"!
When I hear of witnesses using the persecution label I always respond by pointing out the stupidity of the comment!
I have had witnesses say things like :"the increase in taxes on the org is 'persecution'" or the rising cost of building halls id "persecution"
they will even use the change in the temperature of the seasons as "persecution" making "service" harder...
Whether or not shunning is ever "illegal" will make little to no difference to the obedient follower. Remember they pay Caesar’s things to Caesar as long as it doesn't conflict with the organization's interest which is offered up to the members as the word of God.
It's the same reasoning as stating prejudice is 'illegal' or discrimination is illegal. People will still practice and hold on to their belief system regardless of the 'law of the land'. A bigot is still a bigot no matter what laws or legality is behind trying to make all people equal.
A Jehovah's Witness will still shun if the organization tells them it is what God wants and they believe that organization is representing God's will. No secular law will enlighten the vast majority of loyal supporting members of the Jehovah's Witness organization. They will continue to follow Mother. If Mother says, continue to shun because it's Jehovah's will and your everlasting/eternal life hangs in the balance, they will continue to shun.
I remember back in the late 80's or early 90's the Wt. was telling us there was going to be great persecution shortly in the way of nationalism. Didn 't happen. So why would this be any diffrent. Still Totally ADD
Oh what horrible persecution that the WBTS could get sued for causing psychological harm by d'fing and shunning people and that they may have to put aside prejudice and perform gay marriages. So shocking! Poor Possums!
Where do these guys get off! This mentality is sooo f##ked up. But the r&f will lap it up. Them playing the victim makes me so angry.
Splash, human rights legislation excludes religious groups from marrying anyone contrary to the religion's beliefs - which would also include refusing to marry any of their own members who are not in good standing.
So, I don't know where this idea is coming from that anyone can now go to any religious group and demand to be married.
steve2 - "I don't know where this idea is coming from that anyone can now go to any religious group and demand to be married."
It comes from fundies' all-consuming need to find something - anything - that'll reinforce the idea that they're being disadvantaged for being what they are...
...even if that something is bullshit.
My first ever partner got really exasperated at the JWs: claiming it was "watertight" - there is no way to get in unless the person themselves starta to have doubts.
So you're not being persecuted? You're not doing it right! Result: unhappiness due to lack of persecution, inability to enjoy peaceful life. Doubts about strength of faith.
So you are undergoing persecution? Congratulations! Result: unhappiness due to persecution, inability to enjoy life, no doubts about faith.
DISPOSABLE- Very interesting. JW's are trigger happy with the " martyr syndrome " and any of us can just LOOK at them - and they'll claim they are being persecuted. They are so willing to fall on their sword in the name of being " persecuted " allegedly that I've even heard JW's claiming that the news media is " persecuting " them when exposing child abuse inside the JW organization. It's just another excuse for them to condone wrongdoing and criminal behavior on their part. Just another alibi. Ridiculous
2 TIMOTHY 3:12
jws feel that must be persecuted if they are serving God faithfully. No persecution...not serving correctly. But how is it that many religions are persecuted as this website documents? http://www.forum18.org/

9 We do well to remember that Satan wants to use the tribulations we suffer to undermine our faith. However, we must not allow him to sap our joy in this way. Proverbs 24:10 says: “Have you shown yourself discouraged in the day of distress? Your power will be scanty.” Meditating on Biblical examples, such as those discussed earlier, will help us to muster up courage in the face of adversities.
10 It is also good to keep in mind that we cannot remove all problems. In fact, we can expect to experience them. (2 Tim. 3:12) Acts 14:22 tells us: “We must enter into the kingdom of God through many tribulations.” Rather than becoming dejected, why not view them as opportunities to manifest courage based on your faith in God’s ability to help you?
*** w10 9/1 p. 29 Trust in Jehovah—He Will Really Help You ***
Many servants of God have suffered terribly for serving him. But is that not what we were told to expect? “All those desiring to live with godly devotion in association with Christ Jesus will also be persecuted,” the Bible says. (2 Timothy 3:12)
*** w04 11/1 p. 17 par. 14 Persecuted yet Happy ***
Another reason why opposition and persecution for righteousness’ sake makes us happy is that it proves that we are living as true Christians with godly devotion. The apostle Paul wrote: “All those desiring to live with godly devotion in association with Christ Jesus will also be persecuted.” (2 Timothy 3:12)
