Ok it was a n exaggerated example about telling this kid at school his picture was good when it wasn't. The outcome he grew up to become "Chief Architect of Westminster Council". But on the otherside whats the point of being totally honest and destroying a kids confidence? I mean instead of being an " architect" he could end up never having lived at all.
How about if you turn it around!
Do you like it when someone says something that is flattering then later you found out the person said the samething to everyone?
Worse yet you found out it was a lie! The person did not feel that way at all!
You probably would think why did he/she bother because it would not matter! What was the purpose!
It is better to practice saying nothing. Hard to do but it is worth it.
Most people move on with conversation.

Great points Snare, when I consider what to say to someone I seek to say what is most appropriate for them at the time. I seek to always speak in congruence to my paradigm while relating to theirs; any sufficiently advanced knowledgeable person can tell when they are being lied to.
One thing to consider that as humans we relate to the world around us with maps in our head and as anyone who has done field service can testify that a map doesn't not always accurately represent the territory. Then, here is how we define the map compared to some other person we may be on the other side of the street down the block or in the wrong town. A person could reflect on this topic for hours...

Anyway lies a i hate is when people ask to borrow money and have no intention of paying back.
And also as a witness i hated being threatend by expulsion for telling the truth.
