No we didn't make it that far - it's around Cromwell isn't it? What a great name for a mountain! It sounds like a wonderful venue with great views!

A lot more animals (including Hobbits!), than people:

- although the situation is not as extreme as it was in the 1970s and early 80s, when there were 60 to 70 million head of sheep in the country, versus a population of barely three million people. (At the same time as this, prime minister Robert Muldoon was quietly trying to reduce the human population. He made immigration more difficult, and turned a blind eye to the significant numbers who were emigrating).

I am an Oz. I visited once to see friends and do a bus tour with "AAT Kings" travel --best ever. the Lakes the views and people just wonderful. I nearly landed a job there- it was hard to come home.

Sadly the govt there is the biggest user of the dreadful poison "1080" in the world. Check the site the Graf Boys to see about that.

Queenstown is paradise for me a 50 kilometre lake full of trout. Place your hands flat at each end of your keyboard for size-- a little town surrounded by mountains which go pink on sundown.

North Island is where the Maori (pronounced Mari) live big solid people very proud of their culture and a lot wearing facial tattoos women too--very striking. Rota Ruah. The town smells/ stinks? of sulphur it comes up out of the ground very volcanic--as one store owner said to me, "We never get colds!"

Where is NZ? think of Australia and NZ is.. ah get out your atlas or google earth have a look. summary? I loved it and mourned all the way home.

I had the honour to see the famous Haka performed, phwargh talk about 'spiritual' strength! WOW!
