This is a great site just the way it is. Much help is here even though some of it my be a bit caustic. For the most part it is good for you. I have felt the full range of emotions from reading post here but isn't that the point? To help shed the MC and learn to think for ourselves? Kudos to whoever owns and maintains this site and if you make a few bucks in the process, more power to you!

This site has been valuable to me, as i attempt to heal the damage from the WT cult. I'm grateful for the help received here!
My formal education is slight compared to most people on here. I don't enjoy most of the doctrinal and scriptural heavy-duty discussions. I'm attracted more to the personal experiences and humorous expressions, etc. But there is enough of all kinds of topics and discussions to suit varying tastes, in my opinion. In addition, there are many participants who sincerely care about troubles and suffering of others. They offer their time and attention to suggest helpful solutions and differing ways to look at things.
So it's my favorite website.

Ascribing motives or reasons for people's points of view can be helpful up to a point - but should not stand in the way of answering questions.
Remember, folks, that the "master" of abscribing motives or reasons for our questioning the Watchtower is the organization itself - it does everything but accurately hear what is being said. I fear that sometimes believers hurl the same sorts of accusations at those who no longer identify as believers.
To say that athiests on this site are atheists because the Watchtower drove them to it is the same as the organization saying that apostates are apostates because Satan has influenced them. How helpful is it to dismiss someone's view point with a "one size fits all" explanation.
Besides, the "problem" of doubt is endemic in Christian religions in general - which is why there are many helpful websites that bravely address the issue of Christians who doubt such as losingmyreligion.com

I really am confused as to why atheists bother coming here, it seems so pointless for them. All they really have to say is "I don't believe in God" alright, so then what ? - Villagegirl
I can only speak for myself since not believing in god is not a club.
I was born-again christian for 9 years after leaving the Watchtower so when it comes to matters of faith I know what I am talking about. I am convinced that moving from the Watchtower to any form of faith-based worldview is to fool yourself into thinking you have made any significant change in your beliefs.
The fundamental issue is not the doctrines of the Watchtower versus alternative chrsitian doctrines; that is a trivial disctinction.
The real issue is the idea that faith is a legitimate basis for belief. Until we adopt an evidence-based view of life, where our beliefs are commensurate with the evidence, then we are in no position to criticise Jehovah Witnesses.
Apart from arguments against faith I have also contributed many threads that attack Watchtower doctrine in a way that would be helpful to lurking JWs.
Between them they have almost 18 000 views.
My thread on natural evil has over 52 000 views.
The last time you made a similar thoughtless attack on atheists I responded with this thread...
You don't appear to have learned anything in 8 months.
So that is why I "bother coming here". I hope that has helped to clear up your confusion.
What have you contributed apart from personal attacks?

I've never been on a website that doesn't allow you to delete your own personal messages. Why can we not do that on this site? What are your motives in keeping our personal messages? Why can't we delete our accounts either?
Why has everyone just completely skipped answering these two very valid and important questions? Having no control of your own messages and inbox is very abnormal. In 25 years online and in countless forums I have never seen anything like this.

Only Simon can answer why there is no function to delete messages. Personally I couldn't care less, they are not doing any harm.
As for deleting accounts that is pointless. Just stop posting. If a posting history was removed a lot of threads would be impossible to follow.

If you believe that when you "don't see" a PM (or email) you have deleted that it means it's actuallydeleted and gone for good then you maybe naive about how computer systems typically operate. Most systems use what is called 'soft delete' which means they are filtered out but still very much there and they have to be to manage a site properly.
There are several reasons for there being no delete button, the main one being my lazy ass never getting round to implementing it but also, in the past, several people tried to use PMs and the auto-hide (soft delete) to stirr up trouble which is why I never felt inclined to implement it. They would post vile insults and threats and then claim to be a victim when someone responded (once their PMs had 'scrolled out of view'). I think it's fairer that everyone knows they are there so they don't waste their time and mine.
As for me "liking controversy" to gain visitors ... that is frankly simply idiotic. Sure, there are a few morons who are drawn to fights but they are not my target audience and I'd much rather they left. You'll notice that they are regularly kicked off which I think blows your theory out of the water.
Of course I don't thin you really believe it and won't let facts get in the way of throwing some mud which is all you are doing - the forum has survived and thrived for about 15 (?) years so we must be doing something right and the sites that *did* go in for fighting and controversy are all long gone and good riddance or else have a trickle of the traffice compared to this site.
We're also not here as a publishing house for religious claptrap - the name says it all, it's for anyone who has been impacted in any way by the teachings of Jehovahs Witnesses as organized and controlled by the WatchTower Bible and Tract Society.

I only wished thirty five years ago,I had one person I could go to for help. At least now lurkers, disfellowshipped ones, and anyone who is affiliated with WT can come here! They are not alone.
People will figure out were they stand and believe but at least they can read ALL view points.
Villagegirl and many others were wondering the same things! So...
Simon and Steve thank you for helping many here understand.
