If the WTBT$ is going to ease or reverse themselves on the blood issue, it will be because they can see lawsuits coming from their doctrine that they force upon JW's with the threat of disfellowshipping. That is my hunch. If they change anything it is always due to CYA from lawsuits.

Less than 5 years ago? 5 to 10 years ago? Any references from the Watchtower or Awake, the more "public face" of the organization?

Black Sheep
They still maintain their position on blood on their public website. Does that count?

Why don't you check it out the easy way? http://wol.jw.org/en/wol/h/r3/lp-n

Thanks Black Sheep and Old Hippie. I am surprised I did not think of doing that. OTOH, there may be differences / refinements between online versions of older magazines. I am curious when the latest discussion had been featured in their magazines. Still, thanks it provides another area to follow up.

Just thinking out loud.....
It is well documented on various places in this site and elsewhere, that they were ready to make a significant change in 2001, then something (9/11?) made them change their minds in a hurry.
It is intimated that Jaracz was the de facto leader of the org. at the time. If so, it seems more than likely that he was the one who instigated and enforced the sudden reversal.
He died 3 or 4 years ago.
"3 or 4 years" seems to be the "respectful" amount of time to pass before making radical changes to a deceased leader's doctrine. They waited that amount of time before revamping Fred Franz's "sheep and goats" and "generation of 1914" teachings, for example.
So again, not saying they would necessarily do it, but the groundwork appears to be laid.

The attention span of a gnat is a few seconds. They could change it anytime and the flock won't collectively mind.

Marvin your are the most educated person on blood, when are they going to discontinue this doctrine, with all the bat-shit crazy new doctrines they developed, it's only time they make a move. There's a large Exodus of Mormons leaving their church and they are going to start a new PR campaign to stem the blood loss of old members. JWs are experiencing this too, my Kingdom Hall once was 200+ and now we are down to 75-90 on Tuedays, they need changes to stop people from leaving.
