@ CG: 1914 was a cover up for the missed prediction of Armageddon

    .

We see no reason for changing the figures--nor could we change them if we would. They are, we believe, God's dates, not ours. But bear in mind that the end of 1914 is not the date for the beginning, but for the end of the time of trouble.
    Zion's Watch Tower, 15 July 1894, page 1677

The Scriptures show that the second presence [of the Lord] was due in 1874 . . . . This proof shows that the Lord has been present since 1874.
--The Watch Tower, 1 March 1923, page 67

Surely there is not the slightest room for doubt in the mind of a truly consecrated child of God that the Lord Jesus is present and has been since 1874.
--The Watch Tower, 1 January 1924, page 5

On pages 138-139 (Proclaimers book), the March 1, 1925 Watch Tower's feature article is quoted:

A real milestone was reached, therefore, in 1925, when The Watch Tower of March 1 featured the article "Birth of the Nation." It presented an eye-opening study of Revelation chapter 12. The article set forth evidence that the Messianic Kingdom had been born--established--in 1914, that Christ had then begun to rule on his heavenly throne, and that thereafter Satan had been hurled from heaven down to the vicinity of the earth. This was the good news that was to be proclaimed, the news that God's Kingdom was already in operation. How this enlightened understanding stimulated these Kingdom proclaimers to preach to the ends of the earth!"

So according to Jehovah's Witnesses own documentary, the 1914 Advent was not their teaching until the year 1925, eleven years after 1914

    .

Considering what WT clearly said above (i.e. 1874 = Christ's return), the following statements are nothing more than outright lies:

Why, then, do the nations not realize and accept the approach of this climax of judgment? It is because they have not heeded the world-wide advertising of Christ's return and his second presence. Since long before World War I Jehovah's witnesses pointed to 1914 as the time for this great event to occur.
    --The Watchtower, 15 June 1954, page 370, para.4

    w84 4/1 p. 7 1914 a Marked Year—Why? ***

When the Gentile Times ended, Jehovah was to give the power to rule to the One "who has the legal right," Jesus Christ. Therefore, 1914 would mark the time when Christ began to rule as King in God’s heavenly Kingdom, and since his rulership extends down to this day, it touches you.

    > "In the year 1943 the Watch Tower Bible and Tract Society published the book "The Truth Shall Make You Free." This moved forward the end of six thousand years of man's existence into the decade of the 1970's. Naturally this did away with the year 1874 C.E. as the date of return of the Lord Jesus Christ and the beginning of his invisible presence or parousia. Page 324 of the above book positively says: "The King's presence or parousia began in 1914."" God's Kingdom on a Thousand Years Has Approached p.209

    .

    Prior to 1914, WT said:

"The year A.D. 1878, ... clearly marks the time for the actual assuming of power as King of kings, by our present, spiritual, invisible Lord...." Thy Kingdom Come (1911 ed) p.239

"But bear in mind that the end of 1914 is not the date for the beginning, but for the end of the time of trouble. Zion's Watch Tower 1894 July 15 p.226

After the 1914 predictions all failed, WT said:

"The Watchtower has consistently presented evidence to honesthearted students of Bible prophecy that Jesus’ presence in heavenly Kingdom power began in 1914." Watchtower 1993 January 15 p.5

"Jehovah's witnesses pointed to the year 1914, decades in advance, as marking the start of "the conclusion of the system of things." Awake! 1973 January 22 p.8

WT even went so far as to go back and change their own publications to hide what it said earlier:

The 1908 edition of Studies in the Scriptures Series III - Thy Kingdom Come stated on p.228 that the resurrection would occur before 1914. The 1915 edition changed this to state that the resurrection was to occur soon after 1914.

"That the deliverance of the saints must take place some time before 1914 is manifest, since the deliverance of fleshly Israel, as we shall see, is appointed to take place at that time, and the angry nations will then be authoritatively commanded to be still, and will be made to recognize the power of Jehovah's Anointed. Just how long before 1914 the last living members of the body of Christ will be glorified, we are not directly informed; but it certainly will not be until their work in the flesh is done; nor can we reasonably presume that they will long remain after that work is accomplished. With these two thought in mind, we can approximate the time of the deliverance."

Most people like my wife will turn a blind eye...mainly because they have been brainwashed to think the big A is coming soon and those not in will be destroyed. who wants to be destroyed.

but in hindsite...poor those brothers and sister who gave up there lives and familys for an orginzation that doesn't care. you know i heard someone say at the meeting the other day that we are free moral agents. i felt like responding with...ya until we become a witness.

also i often think of those people who die " a faithful witness" and realize there is an afterlife and how wrong they were when they were on earth.

Oh how I wish the internet had been around then...I just might've googled something out of curiosity and I could've been out decades ago.

I've had similar thoughts. I was baptized in 95. According to this source (http://data.worldbank.org/indicator/IT.NET.USER.P2?page=3) there were fewer than 10 internet users out of 100 people in the United States back then. I was not among them.

Five years later I bought my first PC and had dial-up internet in my house. What would have happened had I been born five years later? Would I have done online research? I might have learned the true origins of the religions before baptism.

It really serves no purpose to speculate, but I can't help but wonder.

I will vouch for that..........when a talk on 1914 came up sisters always wanted to trade with me.

jws with me at the door never could explain to a HH although the bible topic outlines in the back of the NWT had an easy version.

years of "prophecy" study books and people would just read their answers and conductors would stumble through hoping for something like the small 186 page books.

Listening to public talks that had circular reasoning and showed ignorance of the WTS history on this topic.

    It's a social club folks.

As a JW, when an adult read out of the paragraph and not in thier own words, I would cringe. It hindsight, this should've been a huge red flag.

Most JWs - especially the born-ins - are not studious or rational thinkers.

They are all too happy to leave thinking to their leaders.

JWs have ended up like the parishioners in the churches of Christendom whose leaders tell them what to think. In other words, JWs have become the kind of believers they once criticized - and probably still do. They are absymally ignorant of the history behind and rationale for their doctrines.

^ what Steve said above is all you need to know.

The vast majority of JW's couldn't tell you one damn thing about their religion. They show up twice a week, repeat what they hear and keep moving.

    They choose to be ignorant.

And all of this is why doctrine doesn't matter.

Getting a loved one out rarely depends on doctrine. You have to find another way.
