Who's got the upper hand at the moment, the watchtower org or the apostates.
When you first leave and find out there are many other like you , you can feel like the watchtower org is crumbling. But many have been out for years and the watchtower has continued to grow.

    Are efforts by apostates working?
or is the watchtower able to easily counter them?
Do most leave the org due to efforts by those who have already walked out , or do most find their own way?
How then can we be more effective?

I think of this as an individual by individual battle. People do not become JWs in large groups. Why would we expect them to leave that way? JWs understand the value of one on one studying with people in the beginning anyway.

If people have been in the dark for a long time, it takes a while for their eyes to focus if suddenly a bright light is turned on. One by one, a little bit at a time. (For once a proper application of the light gets brighter.)

I'm not so sure that this is a battle like that. If they want to be in, let them be in. However I think that we should focus our efforts much more on educating an unsuspecting public so that they know ahead of time what they are really in for.

It is amazing how many of us seem to not check out what the org. is telling us, unless someone tells us something
that makes us wonder about things. I'm really amazed at the age of some of you and no longer than you were really
in the org. Are you smarter than the old timers or what. Being in it for 46 yrs. having some doubts but not checking it out. It really makes you angry to think you have given
them all those years for free. Now I want my kids back and can't get them. They are in ;their 40's is there any hope
for them? I'm so glad to see all the new posters everyday that is what gives me some hope. I know of a couple more
that are planning on leaving but may that time. Keep up the good work everyone. I enjoy the board very much. Thank
    you Simon. Desertflower

Excellent question. My thoughts: the Society is "winning" but the margin is shrinking. Developed countries have zero or negative growth; according to WT spokesman JR Brown's May 10 WNYC interview, they are growing at 1.7%, which I believe (just a guess, tell me if I'm wrong) is less than the growth of the world's population.

On that same interview, then projected a doubling of members by 2020, but at 1.7% I would estimate a doubling would take 42 years, i.e. doubling by 2040. But I don't expect they can continue even the tiny 1.7% growth for very long, the more time that passes, the less credibility their end-of-days preidictions are.

Also, with the Internet and its most popular tool, the World Wide Web, and the free-exchange of information that goes along with it, I *hope* that the truth about "The Truth (TM)" will be exposed like never before.

    Remember, information is powerful!

This is a guerilla war which pits a centralized , well-armed
power (the Watchtower) against decentralized, cyber- mujaheedin.

In principle, it's similar to the U.S. in Vietnam, the Soviets
in Afghanistan, or the French fighting in Algeria.

The powerful centralized tyrants resist with the full might
of their organization but are forced to compromise and seek
'face-saving' measures to conceal being drained by continuous
defeats. Once stubborn denial is seen as futile, changes can
    come rapidly.

Many of you are new to this or other boards, so you may still
believe that forcing the Society to change is impossible.
(Indeed, elders and GB members may assert this view) However,
the internet has handed the Watchtower a string of surprizing defeats
in recent years. It offers 'apostates' and the df'd a form
of association and solace. It offers encouragement to embolden
'moles' in the organization. It allows for an unprecedented
sharing of clandestine information - and rapid public exposure
of attempted deceit by Watchtower officials.

Utterly contrary to the scripture in Isaiah, that "no weapon
formed against you will have success" - the WTS has proven
to be dominantly impotent against internet warfare.

i don't think they are growing at all anymore(i don't believe any of their statistics, they are proven liars)........at best they are on a very slow decline........baptizing "children" is keeping their numbers up........also still a few undeveloped countries, where the internet information is not available.........as their members die off, there won't be the same amount of replacements.

the truth about jw history and their doctines is becoming so easily available now, all someone has to do, if they are curious or studying, is to type in "jehovah's witnesses".......and bingo......they can easily refute any jw propaganda, to where the person conducting the bible study will not even talk to them anymore.

on the other hand, what do i know?.......there is a sucker born every minute, and jws have just a much right to brainwash them as anyone else.

It's hard to get a good "take" on world population increase, but it seems to be about 1.5% and declining. In western democracies, it is much less, Italy for example, reported a negative number recently.

Even if the WT is at a 1.7% increase globally (and a waning increase at that), I think humanity and apostates have the solid upper hand. I suspect that the countries that have the greater WT increase, have a much greater population increase, ie, countries like Brazil, Mexico, Nigeria (the three greatest WT increases).
