Where would we go, is the question

@givemealittlemoretime: The simplicity of what Jesus said is lost on organized religion; they are all about members, donations, buildings, projects, and in the case of JW's, behavior control

@Blondie: Amazing how they hijack the direction of what Peter said and make it about a set of buildings and printing presses.

Blondie, did you notice how much different the writing is even in that quote from 1975?? A little crazy, but still, it shows to me how dumbed down the writing is in the modern day org.

Is it really possible to remain in a burning building though and not get hurt?

    @happyatlast:

I hear you, and I have no desire to go back. But of course, the question that modern JW's ask those family members who have left is not a serious one, is it?

It is just a thought stopping mechanism; of course, there is no place like where they are: they are waiting for their house on the mountainside, waiting to pet the lions, with a never ending food supply and paradise all around.

Never mind that it isn't real; they believe in it.

I just have this fatal flaw in that I think that there is a word, a thought, that might break through to those who are on the brink, and it seemed like a good place to start.

About all or nothing: that is a very WT concept, black or white NO nuance.

This 3rd place means that those who could stay could just acknowledge, even to themselves, that though they don't believe everything, or even most of it, that they will stay for the sense of community and just not refuse blood, not sacrifice their children; they will keep their sexual lives to themselves, vote if they want.

In other words, just ignore most of what is said and carry on.

You could go to the gospels in the bible, but this time, read it by yourself so that you could read the real truth.

Stupid cult ruins real faith from those who escape..

@stuckinarut: This is more of a rant on my part, I am good at rants that feel good but propose ideas that will just never happen, so, yeah, I hear ya.

@TTWSYF (what does that stand for?): Reading the bible in meetings to avoid going insane is the reason I stopped going.

I was reading Acts and realized the whole deal about blood was just part of christians trying to decide what to keep and what to let go of, and that it was just a dietary restriction, something that set them apart.

I suggested reading the gospels in the bible because although JWs will come to the door saying they have the word, they do not read in a manner that lets them see the truth. You {or anyone} can read and make upyour own mind in relation to what you were taught. Jws really aren't taught the bible, they're taught the watchtower and awake with bible verses thrown in, more often than not, out of context.

I feel very discouraged that so many ex JWs become athiest, especially when the real truth is right there for you to see and read about without corruption [provided that they get rid of the NWT].

Just my opinion and I'm just saying it,

Gospels are nonsense. Unfullfilled prophecies, failed expectations, and not authoritative for Jewish population. Where to begin? Original sin, atonement, baptism, Jesus hiking with Devil, Parousia, 12 dudes, Lazarus... Even God of the OT did not rise Abel, nor Moses, yet Lazarus?

Come to Jesus with your problem. He will help you find a Group of people (including Ex JWs perhaps) who still believe in God and Christ and the Bible. If they are true believers in that group you will find love and commitment and growth. By their fruits you will know them. Don't measure anyone by organization standards, but by God's word alone. The WTS has lied to you for so long about other Christians, none of which has perfect doctrine.

The "third place" that is discussed here - that is what I'm struggling with. I'm successfully faded, but I miss the social aspect of things and I've toyed with the idea of going back. the "third place" though feels hypocritical and I'm afraid of being found out and DF'd. That would really limit my ability to help my family. How do you go in service? I'm not sure I could - I cannot with a clear conscience recommend someone become a JW.

If you are a person who is a "conscious class" and hold this "third place", how does it work??

" If you are a person who is a "conscious class" and hold this "third place", how does it work?? ".

I too wonder this, I know it was not, and is not for me, but I think there are very many JW's that this is their present position, they know it is not "the truth" but they are prepared to appear to support it for the sake of maintaining their family and friend relationships.

Quite where personal integrity fits in with this I do not understand. It is, after all, living a lie, which is simply not good for a person mentally and emotionally.

To do this for year after year with no plan to exit must be so so wearing, and really, I think, a waste of a person's life.
